PLANNING & DESIGN COMMISSION <br />CI'I'Y OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />MINUTES OF NOVEMBER 14, 2018 <br />ROLL CALL <br />Mr. Malone called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm in Council Chambers and led the Pledge of <br />Allegiance. <br />Present: Greg Malone, Paul Schumann, Darrick Matthews, Tom Patton, Don Rerko, Dave <br />Anderson <br />Absent: Julie Nader <br />Staff: Planning Director Kim Lieber, Assistant Law Director Bryan O'Malley, City Engineer <br />Pietro DiFranco, Administrative Assistant Nicole Rambo-Ackerman <br />Mr. Malone movecl, seconded by Mr. Schumann, to excuse the absence of Ms. Nader, <br />motion approved 6-0. <br />REVIEVV AND CORI2ECTION OF MINUTES <br />Mr. Malone moved, seconded by Mr. Schumann, to approve the Planning & Design <br />Commission minutes of October 10, 2018, motion passed 6-0. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />18-12560; Burntwood Tavern; 5600 Great Northern Boulevard <br />Representatives: Rob Benjamin, Heritage Development; Rick Siegfried, RSA Architects <br />Ms. Lieber stated that this proposal consists of constructing a new restaurant on the vacant pad <br />next to the Aloft Hotel site. This parcel of land is being developed in accordance with a court <br />agreement between the property owner and the city. The most recent amendment to the <br />agreement provided for the development of a hotel and restaurant on this site. The hotel was <br />constructed and the developer has now identified the restaurant user, Burntwood Tavern. The <br />building will be approximately 5,000 square feet and will also include an exterior patio for <br />seasonal dining. Building materials consist of wood siding, stucco, a bronze aluminum storefront <br />system and a stone veneer base. Decorative elements including wood timber beams, reclaimed <br />wood shutters, a cupola and wood shake shingles add to the character of the building. <br />Landscaping is provided around the foundation of the building. The previous Aloft approval <br />included landscaping for the remainder of the site. Irrigation is provided. The developer should <br />take this opportunity to review the site for any landscape maintenance or replacement required <br />since the hotel construction. The restaurant will share the service and delivery area with the <br />hotel. Changes are proposed to the visible portion of the fence to provide for a better transition <br />between the modern hotel and more rustic restaurant. There is also a walkway proposed between <br />the hotel and restaurant for use by patrons or food deliveries between the hotel and restaurant. <br />Two existing light poles will be removed that interfere with the new building. Building lighting <br />will include sconces, patio lanterns and additional spot lighting. Details on the sconces and <br />lanterns should be provided. New signage will consist of one wall sign and a blade sign at the
