3. A 166 foot variance for ground sign to close to another, (preview to menu) (code requires 200',
applicant shows 34'), section (1163.26 (A)).
4. A 107 foot variance for ground sign to close to another, (menu to ground), (code requires 200',
applicant shows 93'), section (1163.26 (A)).
5. A 66 foot variance for ground sign to close to another, (preview to ground), (code requires
200', applicant shows 134'), section (1163.26 (A)).
Which is in violation of Ord. 90-125 sections; (1163.26 (A)) and (1136.27 (A)).
Note: New drawings, mainly building wall signs, differ from plans presented to Planning
Commission. Mr. Moran the architect and Mr. Romp the owner each came forward to be sworn in and address
the request. Mr. Moran indicated that they would like approval for signage for distance and
additional wall signs. The existing building is being refaced and existing signs are being replaced.
The preview board will be two car lengths behind the ordering board. The ground signs distance is
due to the fact that there is not 200 feet of distance on the site for the ground signs. The new front
entrance will have a smaller sign (logo only) facing Lorain Road. The East side wall of the
building will have the Dairy Queen logo and Grill & Chill sign, which is required by the Dairy
Queen corporation. The new front ground sign will be similar to the existing, but it will be smaller
than what code allows. The Grill & Chill sign was moved to the east side of the building for better
visibility. The signs were not stacked to keep the number of variances needed down. Mrs. Sergi
asked what could be cut down. Mr. Romp indicated that he did not feel he was asking for anything
unreasonable. Mr. Moran reviewed items that were removed to accommodate the city. The only
sign's that are not pre-existing is the Grill & Chill and call-out board. Mrs. Sergi asked why the
call-out sign was needed. Mr. Moran would like to have the visibility other commercial sites have.
The majority of the signs are pre-existing. Mr. O'Malley advised that the height of the ground sign
was lowered to the height being requested and it should also be noted that the applicants had
worked very hard with the other boards and commissions to get the signs to what they are now.
W. Kremzar moved to grant Dairy Queen of 24579 Lorain Road their request for variance
(1123.12), which consists of signage and that the following variances are granted as amended:
1. A variance for 1 additional wall sign, (code permits 1, applicant snows 2), section (1163.27
(A))•
2. A variance for 1 additional ground signs (code permits 1, applicant shows 2), section
(1163.26 (A)).
? A 196 r t f,... „ .. a .. n (code, z
2001, >
4.
