B. Lord motioned to invite Dr. Stannc and anyone he chooses to aceompany him to
discuss the antent of the Middle School with Landanarks on November 14, 2005o The
Commission would like Dr. Stanac to bring buflding/structural plans with hian to the
meeting. L. Thogmartan seconded the motioo, which was unanimously approved.
Nirs. Lord suggested the commission start coanpiling the paperwork needed to plaque the
Middle School prior to meeting with the school so the commission is prepared when they
meet with Dr. Stanic.
Mrs. Lord reviewed that the Porter home has a document which states that George
Washington surveyed the land. Mr. Barker questioned if the Historical Society attended the
meeting to discuss the items from the home on Porter. He was advised that some of the
items remained with Mr. Lang and some were turned over to the Historical Society.
Mr. Schuiaiann thanked those members who attend Frostvilles' October Fest and indicated
that they would like to have asaother October Fest next year. The Ba.rton Road Church
project is moving along nicely and in the upcoming weekend there would be a couple of
contractors at the site to put up the trusses to ready the roof for the shingles. They are
hoping to have a11 the work completed on the church by this time next year. The Key Club
on the 186' and 20'h will be painting the Jenkins cabin at the park. Frostville is very excited
that the Key Club is taking part in helping with projects. The Kiwanis Club has been a big
help in getting volu.nteers to F'rostville. The Kiwanis Club is hosting a spaghetti dinner on
October 26h, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Party Center. Landmazks should be receiving
a copy of the Frostville by-laws as they were approved last month.
Mr. Schumann passed out a photo of his home which at one time had 80 acres and was
purchased by Daniel Kelly Huntington. He believes that the gentleman who purchased his
home purchased a total of 150 acres from the Thompson. His home was built in 1875. Mr.
O'Malley indicated that while walking along Butternut Ridge Road he came across an old
brick home dated 1860 and is far back off the road and looks haunted. Mrs. Lord reviewed
that about 25 years ago the city wanted to demolish the home due to it being used as a drug
house. The owner would not have any objections to placing a plaque on the home. She
suggested that Landmarks would love to have a copy of Mr. Schumann's photo for their
records. Mr. Schumann believed that Daniel Kelly Huntington's mother was of the Kelly
Islands Kelly and the Huntington famaly was also from Kelly's Islands as well. Huntington
of Huntington Beach was a Councilman in Cleveland and also tied to the vineyards near the
lake. Daniel Kelly Huntington was a gentleman farmer and made money in the ceramic
business on the west side of Cleveland. He purchased the land in North Olmsted and built
his home and is also on the list of veterans of the Civil War. He served with a group at
Kelly Islands and saved it from the Canadians. His vvife missed Kelly's Island so much he
built an Italian style home on the island for her. Mr. Schumann found through the Ohio
Historical Society register that when he purchased his home that the home had been badly
modernized and had alwninum siding and t11at the brackets had been removed. When he
removed the siding he never found any brackets. Mrs. Lord indicated that at one time there
were gas wells on the property as well. 1VIr. Schumann advised that there was still a gas well
in his front ya.rd. He believed that at one time the builder lived in the home, it was a rental
home for a period, and he even heard that there were hippies in the home for awhile. The
home was briefly owned by a young couple just before he purchased the home. Mrs. Lord
thought that in 1976 there were sconces still connected to a gas line. Mr. Schumann advised
3
