Mr. Lang reviewed that double 4 inch vinyl siding is to be installed on the entire home
which is the saxaie size as the existing siding on the home. IVIrs. Lord questioned if the
existing wood siding would remain under the vinyl siding. She also questioned the date of
the homes construction. Mr. Hainen believed the home was constructed in 1935 so the
home is 70 years old. Mr. Lang advised that the county auditors docaiments show the home
as currentfly having vinyl siding. Mr. Ba.rker xeviewed that a.lthough the comanission in
general is against any homeowner in the historical district piacing siding on their home they
try to work with the residents. He questioned if the Hainen's would be willing to use a vinyl
siding in the same style of wood sidiug crurrentfly on the hoffie instead of using the proposed
vinyl siding. Mr. Hainen indicated that tlae contractor advised that they do have a vinyl
siding shaped like wood shake shingles but they are very expensive. Mr. Sehumann
reviewed Landmarks charge in maintaining the historical district to the applicants. He
reviewed that the dorffier around the hoffie is qui?e unique as it is a double reveal siaangle
and questioned if the applicants would be willing to side the home up to the dormer section
of the home only. NN1rr. Lang advised that the eommission wouid provide the applicants the
proper information to help them decide on what materials would be best far their home.
Mrs. Hainen indicated that they had also been ttninking of painting the hoffie but not sare of
prices or color pallet for the era of their hoffie. The board encouraged the owraers to look
into painting their home. Mr. Schumann suggested that he wouid give fhe owners a pallet
selection for the period of their home and suggested that today's paints have longer
warranties. IVIr. Schrock advised that by gainting the home the monetary value wozald be
greater than placing vanyl sidmg bn the hoffie. Mrs. Hainen questioned if they chose to paint
#he home would they need to go before landmarks again. Mr. Lang answered "no". Nir. &
Mrs. Hainen said they would research the dption of painting further before making a
decision.
V. CONEWUIVICATIOlotSo
A. Letters to Mr. & Mrs. Franks and Mr. & IVIrs. Ordinance No. 2005-63 regareling; fee, deposit and expenses for non-profit organizations
E. North Olmsted Historical Society Letter
Mr. Schuffiann said he lelieved that the ordinance was Landmarks with a capital I, and it is
his understanding that there are only 4 actual landmazk sites within North OlYxisted. Those
would be Butternut 1Trdge Historical Distriet, Porter Road Church, Barton Road Church, and
the bualding they are currently in "Old Town Hall". `I'herefore, he believes that the
ordirfance would then only cover those 4Landffiarks. Mr. Barker suggested that ordinances
could always be amended later to include other historic buildings being moved by 501 C3
non profit organiaations. Mr. O'Malley advised that he would have to look into the matter
furklier.
B. I,ord moved that Landffiarks investigate looldng at tbe Dawid-3obnson-Sterns home
which is located on Lorain Road across tlge street faom BPetton Ridge Developffient as the
home was the first residence of the Olgnsted sectiom of North Olmsted. Their family arrived
in 1816 and worth a historical plaque. P. Barker seconded the motion which was
unanimously approved.
2
