` CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
CUL'I'URAI. ACTIVITIES COMMISSION
OLID TOWN HAI.I,
AUGUST 2, 8006
MIloTiTTES
1. ROI,L CAI.L
PRESENT: R. Garland, B. Martindale, J. Kepperley, G. Yustick, F. Curry, D. Wahl, B.
Brown.
II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES:
Minutes for July 12, were reviewed and corrected. Mr. Garland moved to approve the
minutes, second by Mr. Kepperley, which was unanimously approved.
III. NEW SUSINESS:
• The Commission members discussed and agreed on using the Cultural Activities logo
created by Mr. Wahl. The logo has been approved by the Planning Director.
e Mr. Garland spoke with the Cuyahoga County Commissioner's office regarding a
cigarette tax levy to acquire funds for the arts. The chair person Jessica Columbi will
contact him with further information. Mr. Garland was interested in how some
entities in North Olmsted could acquire funding were such a levy to be passed.
IV. OLD BUSIlNESS:
• The Commission reviewed their ideas for a holiday event at Old Town Hall, which
would include puppet shows, music, food, and a scavenger hunt for the kids.
• The Commission discussed their involvement with the Homecoining event on August
25, 26 & 27'?, 2006. Mr. Wahl will be driving Mrs. Martindale's vintage car in the
Sunday parade.
• The Commission discussed the plan for having the Frostville Art Show the weekend
of August 11 &12, 2007. Mrs. Curry discussed the possibilities of advertising for the
art show in the paper. She met with Art Malloy from the PD and he said that running
a display ad the size of a business card, one tixne only, is $595.00, which covers
390,000 subscribers. If the commission just advertises the west side, it would be
$59.00 x the size per inch of the ad. Just the northwest section of the county would
be $49.45 x per inch of the ad. To advertise in the Plain Dealer you have to pay per
city. Mr. Kepperley suggested trying to get a reporter to cover the event, possibly in
the Metro section. Mr. Kepperley created the application and information for the
Frostville show and copies will be available for interested artists at the Cultural
Activities Homecoming table. Applications will be sent out to a list of artists
provided by the commission October 1, 2006. There was also an idea to feature one
particular work as part of the cover/advertising for their show.
V. COlVIMiTNICATIOlloTS:
VI. COMMITTEE REPORTS:
The Dover Players performance has been going well. The next play is Death Trap,
scheduled for October.
