CITY OF NORTH OLIVISTED <br />LANDMARKS COMMISSION <br />OLD TOWN HALL <br />MONDAY, MAY 8, 2006 <br />MINUTES <br />1. I20LL CALL: <br />Chairperson B. Lord called the meeting to order at 7:09 p.m. <br />PRESENT: B. Lord, T. Dubowslci, D. Rerko, L. Thogmartin, T. Schock, L. Orlowski <br />ABSENT: J. Laslco, P. Schumann, M. Davis <br />I.I. REVIEW AND COlaRECTION OF MINUTES: <br />Minutes were read and discussed from April 10, 2006. Mrs. Lord moved to approve the minutes, <br />as amended T. Schoclc seconded the motion, which was unanimously approved. <br />III. OLD BUSINESS <br />The Commission discussed the Historic Preservation spreadsheet submitted to all of the <br />meinbers. Suggestions and comments were made in regards to acquiring the CLG, having access <br />to low interest loans through the Cleveland Restoration Society, utilizing volunteers and other <br />commissions achieving goals and projects. Mr. Orlowski suggested the possibility of the <br />city/commission obtaining its own low interest loan program. <br />IV. NEW BUSINESS: <br />The Coinmission reviewed the proposals for a holiday event, particularly the proposal for a <br />holiday lighting event on Butternut Ridge. The Commission members expressed concern and <br />felt there should be some restrictions on how residents choose to decorate their exterior. Mrs. <br />Thogmartin suggested focusing on traditional decor, historical in nature. They could corisider <br />awarding prizes or plaques for homes. There was further discussion in terms of establishing <br />lines of communication with Butternut Ridge residents and possibly expanding the lighting to <br />Dover Center Road as well. Mrs. Lord suggested they talce time to thinlc about the event. The <br />coininission was not comfortable with a Christmas in July event as it would compete with the <br />Frostville event in July. Mr. Schock suggested maybe moving the event down to the Frostville <br />area. Mrs. Lord distributed the subscribed publications included for Landmarlcs. The group <br />reviewed the concept for a cominission newsletter but agreed that the commission was not ready <br />at this time. They expressed interest in the newsletter idea if it was in their budget. Photos of the <br />Stearns home deconstruction were reviewed. Mrs. Lord explained the time line and history of <br />the construction of the Stearns home. <br />V. COMMUNICATIONS: <br />VI. COMMITTEE REP012TS <br />Archival Committee: Tom Schoclc and Laura Thogmartin spent about two hours sorting <br />through drawers, deciding on what they should keep. Mrs. Thogmartin wants to complete <br />organizing drawers. A compact VHS for Landmarks was found, also found was a 1938 and 1941 <br />eight millimeter home movie. They would like to look into converting the movie to a video. <br />The committee would lilce to malce a list of priorities for plaquing at the next meeting.
