COMMUNICATIONS: <br />Mrs. Lord requested any new information on the Stearns House. Mr. Schock spoke with Kim <br />Wenger and Duane Limpert and Tom Terbrack. It is too late to save the Stearns Home however <br />it could have been saved a year ago with better advance planning. Joe Bouman, a resident, wants <br />to file a restraining order to halt the demolition, though Mr. O'Malley explained that the <br />commission would not be affected by that order. Paul Schumann and Angie Cadwallader were <br />present at a recent council meeting to discuss preservation efforts with the City and to ensure the <br />Historical Society and its position were properly represented. <br />Mrs. Lord commented that the commission has learned a lesson in regards to investigating <br />property internally. It was when people entered the Stearns home that the interest peaked in <br />salvaging the home. Mr. Schumann commented on Rebecca's as another example of a project <br />that could have been salvaged. Mrs. Lord suggested making time for driving or walking through <br />the city as a group to investigate buildings. Mr. Schumann suggested working with SITES <br />teachers Jeff Zullo and Vicki Gummow. They might consider working with Landmarks for <br />student volunteers. Mrs. Thogmartin suggested using them for archiving. Mrs. Lord mentioned <br />using technology, said that for a previous project they had reviewed the Tax Book. Anything <br />built before 1930 was highlighted, distributed to members, and investigated by commission <br />members. They utilized all pertinent information, photographs. They may be able to establish a <br />top 10 list of homes, then a top 100. Significant landmarks need to be targeted. Landmarking <br />properties can be used to bring the cities history to the forefront. Mr. O'Malley requested that <br />they malce a legislative request to address the ordinance so that it is not prohibiting demolition. <br />Mr. O'Malley also mentioned another significant historical structure the Seltzer home on Lorain <br />Road. Mrs. Lord questioned whether we have other historical districts- there is potential for <br />other districts. Mrs. Lord was very pleased regarding the Planning Department's involvement <br />with the CLG and believes that they are on the way to getting the CLG off the ground. <br />Mrs. Lord aslced if anyone wanted to purchase a ticket to attend Community Citizen of the Year <br />Banquet. Donation is $16.00 per person. Mr. O'Malley suggested distributing them and people <br />can pay at the door. <br />Mrs. Lord noted the travel guide for National Trust as well as membership for the National Trust. <br />She mentioned to members the benefits of carrying the card while visiting certain destinations. <br />Membership to the Cleveland Restoration Society was discussed. A non-profit membership is <br />$75.00. Mr. Schock moved to renew the membership for $75.00 to Cleveland Restoration <br />Soeiety. The motion was seconded by Mrs. Thogmartin, which was unanimously approved. <br />VI. COMMITTEE REPORTS: <br />Archival Committee: <br />Commission members reviewed the status of archives. Mrs. Thogmartin said there was one <br />bottom drawer empty, a couple metal cases. The upper drawers are jammed, and things need to <br />be spread out.
