sought for fences on a corner lots. Mr. Rymarczyk questioned if the corner of the fence should be
angled to ensure visibility. Mrs. Sergi did not believe angling the corner was an unreasonable
request but it might not provide visibility as there are already large bushes blocking visibility. Mr.
Burke felt that angling the fence would not be a benefit as the neighbors garage was more than 75
feet from the proposed fence.
N. Sergi moved to grant Allen Duff of. 6197 Park Ridge Road his request for variance
(1123.12), which consists of a new fence and the following varaances are granted: 1. A 20 foot variance for a fence located in required sideyard setback on a corner lot, (code
requires 25', applicant show 51), section (1135.02 (F2)).
2. An 18 inch variance for a fence taller than code allovas in sideyard setback, code permits
3055, applicant shows 48"), section (1135.02 (Fl)).
3. A variance for a fence less than 50% open in a side setback, code requires 50% open,
applicant shows solid), section (1135.02 (F 1)).
Which is in violation of Ord. 90-125 sections (1135.02 (F 1)) and (1135.02 (F 2)). J. Burke
seconded the motion, roll call on the motion; J. Burke, N. Sergi, T. Kelly: yes and M. Diver no.
Variances Granted.
IV. NON-RESIDENTIAL APPEALS AND REQUESTS:
1. Ganlev VW; 25580 Lorain Road: (WRD # 1)
Request for variance (1123.12). The proposal consists of signage and the following variances are
requested: 1. A variance for 2 additional wall signs on a building, (code permits l, applicant shows 3), section
(1163.27 (A)).
2. A variance for 2 additional ground signs on a lot, (code permits 1, applicant shows 3), section
(1163.26 (A)).
3. A 9 inch variance for a wall sign higher than code allows (SG-1), (code permits 4', applicant
shows 4'9"), section (1163.27 (C)).
4. A 45 foot variance for ground signs too close to each other (exist sign & SG-5), (code requires
200', applicant shows 155'), section (1163.26 (A)).
5. A 100 foot variance for ground sign too close to each other (SG-5 & SG-6), (code requires 200',
applicant shows 100'), section (1163.26 (A)).
Which is in violation of Ord. 90-125 sections (1163.27 (A)), (1163.26 (A)), and (1163.27 (C)).
Note: #2 includes existing ground sign, new ground sign (SG-5), and new directional sign (SG-6).
Mr. Kalina, with the sign company, Mr. Harris, with Ganley management and Mr. Bruehler, a
neighbor each came forward to be sworn in and address the request. Mr. Kalina advised that a
number of variances were needed for the new VW dealership. The building is unique in design and
there is a vision wall which will have a 4-foot 9-inch circular V W sign which is approximately 17
and 2 square feet which requires the 9 inch variance. So they are well within the square footage
allowable for that wa11 sign. The next sign on the front of the building is a Ganley nameplate
strategically placed over the window area and is approximately 5 square feet. The design of the
building and placement of the signs gives the building an architectural flow. The third wall sign
needed is not visible from Lorain Road as it is on the west elevation over the service door and reads
service. All three signs are within the allowable square footage for the building. The service sign is
more of a directional sign then anything else. There will be two ground signs one of which will be a
directional sign located along the south west entrance and directs traffic flow around the property. It
states the direction of customer parking, service area, parts and identifies the dealership. The size of
the pylon sign is 14 square feet and is 4 feet high. The second pylon sign will be the VW circular
logo which is only 2 115 feet in diameter. However the pylon height will be 9 feet 10 inches tall.
5
