CULTRUAL ACTIVITIES COMMISSION <br />CITY OF N0RTH OLMSTED <br />MEETING MINUTES OF APRIL 2, 2008 <br />ROLL CALL <br />Chair Royden Garland called the meeting to order at 6:45 p.m. in Old Town Hall. <br />Present: Beverle Martindale, Faye Curry, Royden Garland, John Kepperley, Tim Ulewicz, David <br />Wahl <br />Absent: Gerald Yusticlc <br />REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES ' <br />Mr. Kepperley moved, Mr. Wahl seconded by, to approve the minutes of March 5, 2008, which <br />was unanimously approved, 6-0. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />Art Show Applications <br />Mr. Kepperley has received six applications so far for the Frostville Art Show. Mr. Kepperley <br />proposed that the May 7th meeting talce place at the High School so that they could visit the high <br />school art show scheduled for that evening. The Commission could choose some of the students <br />to participate in the Frostville Show. They will also send out invitations to participate. Mr. <br />Kepperley feels they need to worlc out a better system for hanging the show at Frostville. <br />The Commission will also post art show information on the web sites. Mr. Ulewicz offered to <br />distribute some applications to people he knows. Mr. Kepperley noted that prefabricated worlc <br />will not be accepted, everything must be hand made. <br />Christmas Lighting Contest <br />Mr. Garland said he has made some contacts with people. Ms. Curry contacted the woman at <br />Val Palc and was quoted a price of $340.00 for 10,000 fliers. The advertising will include two <br />colors. Mr. Garland suggested loolcing at other communities that have lighting contests and Mr. <br />Wahl addressed some possible niles for a contest. The Commission also discussed the time <br />frame that might worlc best for the event. The Commission would lilce to schedule the awards <br />the weelc before Christmas due to holiday obligations. There was a suggestion of additional <br />categories for the lighting contest such as "best commercial entity". <br />Homecoming <br />The Commission discussed other possible events within the city. In the event that beer or wine <br />would be involved it would need to receive approval of City Council. There is no alcohol <br />permitted within North Olmsted Parlc. Community Council would be responsible for the license <br />and liability. Mr. Ulewicz would speak with the Assistant Law Director for more information <br />with regards to the inclusion of alcohol at city events. Mr. Ulewicz has spolcen to the German <br />American Center about introducing some cultural assets to Homecoming. All of event ideas <br />should be reviewed by Community Council. <br />1
