'r, <br />CULTURAL ACTIVITIES COMMISSION <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />MEETING MINUTES JANUARY 2, 2008 <br />ROLL CALL <br />Vice Chair Martindale brought the meeting to order at 6:45 p.m. <br />Present: John Kepperley, Gerald Yustick, Beverle Martindale, David Wahl <br />Absent: Faye Curry, Royden Garland <br />Also Present: Barbara Brown <br />ELECTION OF CHAIR ANI) VICE CHAIR <br />Mr. Kepperley moved to retain Royden Garland as Chair with Beverle Martindale as Vice Chair, <br />seconded by Mr. Yustick, which was unanimously approved, 4-0. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />Holidav Event <br />Mr. Kepperley and Mrs. Martindale discussed the timing of the event and felt that the stories and <br />activities worlced well. The Commission agreed that it helps to lceep the start time flexible for the <br />audience to arrive. There was a good turn out, however the date was in close proximity to <br />Christmas which may have made it less possible for people to attend. The Commission agreed to <br />lceep it on Friday and Saturday, although Sunday is a possibility. The Commission was also <br />interested in the tree lighting ceremony, possibly participating next year in some capacity. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />Art Show at Frostville <br />Mr. Kepperley announced the date for the Frostville Art Show is August 10, 2008, 10:00am- <br />6:00pm. It is on a Sunday, two weeks before the North Olmsted Homecoming. Mr. Kepperley <br />stated that he spoke with the City about worlcing to create banner advertising for the event. <br />Black History 1VIonth <br />Mr. Kepperley said that Old Town Hall could be a good performance venue for Blaclc History <br />Month. Mrs. Brown noted that she knew some performers who might be available for such an <br />event. The Commission suggested gospel singers, artists, rap artists. Mr. Kepperley suggested <br />spealcing with Mr. Thomas about contacting African American talent. <br />Christmas Liizhting Contest <br />Also next year the consideration for the lighting competition for Christmas should be reviewed. <br />People could submit applications to participate, with plaques or small prizes awarded for <br />different categories.
