Peake Marker
Mr. Thomas said delivery of the marker was expected sometime next week. Assuming the
plaque is approved, arrangements for the dedication can be made at the next meeting.
Stearns Marker
At the June Landmarks Commission meeting concern was mentioned for a tree adjacent to where
the marker is to be installed. Mr. Thomas and Mr. Dubowski inspected the area. Although not
experts, they did not think the installation would harm any trees. Mr. Dubowski suggested that
since the marker is to be placed on park property, Planning Director Wenger and Service
Director Limpert, as representatives of the Administration, may be the best ones to make the
decision. The final location and the status of the stone base from Jack Boss can be discussed at
the next meeting when Chairman Schumann is present.
Historic Items at Old Town Hall
The items discussed at the June meeting have been inventoried, and a copy of the inventory was
presented to the commission. Mr. Schumann will review the descriptions and revise as needed.
Mr. Orlowski suggested when Mr. Schumann has completed his review the list be forwarded to
the Law Director to determine records retention requirements. Once those issues are resolved,
and with the support of the Administration, the items that do not need to be retained by the City
can be requested by the Landmarks Commission for transfer to Frostville through legislation to
Council.
Display Case, City Hall Entrv
Measurements were taken to explore the possibility of placing the display case, which was once
used on the second floor of City Hall, in the first floor vestibule between the doors. The case
could be used for a rotating exhibit of historic items from the area and maintained by the -------- -.?,.r-? ' Landmarks Commission. Mr. Thomas spoke briefly about items from former Mayor Seltzer that
could be displayed. He also expressed concern about the environmental conditions in the foyer. After viewing the area the commissioners preferred the case be placed in the first floor lobby and
not in the entryway due to the direct sunlight and variations in temperature. This request will be
forwarded to Planning Director Wenger.
COMMUNICATIONS
Memo of June 30, 2008 from Mavor O'Gradv to Councilman Orlowski
Mr. Orlowski said this is one of.several memos written on the subject of the historic items stored
at Old Town Hall. Mr. Schock said as proper procedure is followed the matter will be resolved.
Olmsted Historical Society letter of June 10, 2008
