On Convocation
Day two years ago she spoke about what future would hold for students in a world different in so
many ways than we have known it in decades past. She encourages School Board members and
city leaders to think and talk about how to help children be successful in the 21 St century. One
hundred years ago a formal school board was established and with it the concept of moving
education beyond the basics to what it is today. This year's convocation will celebrate the
school system's centennial. Through many hours reviewing history books and yearbooks, and
with the assistance of the OHS, Vera Brewer produced a seven minute presentation that
illustrates the juxtaposition of the old against the new. Much has changed, yet many great
traditions and values have remained. Through this commemoration the staff can teach and evoke
pride `amongst themselves and others, realizing how the schools and the city continue to work
together to provide children an education for a successful future. Dr. Dubsky invited members
of the .Olmsted Historical SocieTy, Landmarks Commission and city to the convocation
presentation. Also on display will be a commencement address written by Ellie Huntington in
1897. Mr. Thomas recommended the Caster House relocation
to Frostville be considered. Mr. Schock suggested creating national registry versus the current
local registry for the Historic District. This would avail the district additional protections.
Second 2009 Landmarks Commission Sneaker Event
Mr. Schumann said there is no new information, but work continues on scheduling a speaker.
ADJOURNMENT
Mr. Rerko's absence is excused.
