Great Northern Multi Modal Transnortation Plan
Director Wenger reported a steering committee meeting was held at which Mr. Rerko presented
a draft plan of ideas. A meeting with the technical advisory committee (the funders) is next,
where the vision, plan and recommendations will be presented to make certain the plans are
fundable by ODOT, NOACA, RTA, and other funding entities. Public meetings and additional
steering committee meetings will then be scheduled. Mr. Schock noted that Biskind
Development completed a traffic study for the area and mall parking lot in the past. If available,
the report may be helpful for the GNMMTP.
NEW BiJSINESS
Cleveland Restoration Society Celebration of Restoration Award
Mr. Schumann indicated a resolution was submitted to and approved by City Council on
February 3 recommending Frostville Village Church be nominated for a restoration award.
Director Wenger completed the application and assembled the supporting documents. Copies of
the resolution were distributed. Mr. Schumann thanked Director Wenger for her assistance.
Centennial of the Village of North Olmsted and City Schools
Mr. Schumann said, as per Dr. Cheryl Dubsky, the school system is planning an event or
celebration in the fall of 2009. The Olmsted Historical Society has a full schedule this year and
therefore has little room for additional programs. However, Mr. Schumann would like to include
information on both anniversaxies at scheduled events. Director Wenger spoke with Assistant
Law Director Bryan O'Malley, past president of Community Council, regarding Homecoming
and the parade. Community Council may be able to incorporate a subtheme based on the
anniversaries. She also discussed with Community Life Services Director Dailey the possibility
of expanding the city's presence in this yeax's Homecoming to celebrate the anniversaries. Ideas
are still needed. Although it will be a low-budget year, manpower and volunteers are available.
Ideas suggested include posters, a cable channel slide show or video, a softball game between
schools' staff and the city administration with old fashioned uniforms, large screen classical
(period) movies in the park with an ice cream social, a compilation film to run continuously at
Homecoming including tapes from the Living History Project, a timeline presentation, and a
"then and now" presentation of historic properties in North Olmsted. Apart from other events
that may be developed, the anniversaries need to be included in other scheduled events during
2009. Mr. Herwick indicated the Alumni Association customarily has a tent at Homecoming;
they may be interested in participating in some way. Concerning the Living History Project,
Director Wenger suggested the project need not be limited to the oldest of our senior citizens.
Even children can give a new perspective through their thoughts of living in North Olmsted that
will be interesting and historic in the future. The idea of a time capsule was suggested. A time
capsule was prepared during the Musial administration and buried in front of Old Town Hall.
