suggestions. Mr. DiFranco said the document lists possible funding sources. Mr. Bohlmann felt
that some of the projected costs listed in the report appeared low and questioned if the Butternut
Ridge Road price included infrastructure work and Mr. DiFranco said no. 1VIr. Bohlmaxin
inentioned a previous study conducted of Butternut Ridge Road which had higher estimates then
what was shown. Mrs. Meredith asked if the Butternut Ridge bilce path would run along one side
of the road or both sides and Mr. DiFranco said there would be paths along both sides to the
Metropark. Mrs. Meredith asked for clarification regarding the pedestrian/bike route to the rec
center and a brief discussion ensued; it was noted that partnerships with private property owners
would be required. Mrs. Meredith aslced if the plan included new sidewallcs or just repairs as
areas along Butternut Ridge Road puddle during the rain. Mr. DiFranco said regarding cost, the
only consideration was to widen the roadway and do minor repairs to sidewalks however Ms.
Wenger felt the road widening would have enough of an impact that the sidewalks would have to
be addressed in the plan. Mr. Rerlco suggested looking into safety grants to help fund the plan
and felt the executive summary should have inore discussion as it relates to the outcome of the
plan not just the process which started the plan. Mrs. Meredith mentioned the Board of Health
has funds available when plans include walking or biking paths which should be considered.
Mr. Pierson thanlced the city for planning improvements for the area but is concerned that the
bike paths along the sides of the street will endanger children. Mr. Sharp said there are homes
along Butternut that don't have five feet to spare and aslced how those lots would be addressed.
Mr. DiFranco said they would have to conduct a study and if need be they would have to create a
shared use bike lane which would be determined in the study. Mr. Sharp said Butternut Ridge
was once again being sacrificed and said the area residents were not notified of the plai , 1. Mr.
Rerlco said all discussions pertaining to bike paths along Butternut Ridge suggested children
would remain on the sidewalks to ensure safety. The road right of way could accommodate the
installation of bilce paths which could help slow traffic down. Mr. Sharp feels bike paths in the
street will create safety hazards. Mr. Rerlco said the plan is being designed' to clean up the street,
sidewallcs and improve the tree lawns to increase property values of the area. Mrs. Meredith
noted that residents from the street are on the steering committee and notices were.sent out for all
GNMMTP meetings held to date. Mr. Crabs said they were told that there would be no further
increase in the right of ways, now it loolcs as the city is hedging that way. Plan documents are
not consistent from one page to the next and talks were for a bike path along one side of the
street not both but now its both sides of the street. Ohio is not conducive to bike lanes as they
can only be used five months out of the year therefore bike paths are a waste of public funds.
Mrs. Meredith moved, seconded Mr. Malone, to table the Great Northern Multi Modal
Transportation Plan to allow time for comments, which was unanimously approved 6-0.
COMMUNICATIONS
2010 Meeting Calendar
Ms. Wenger suggested moving the second November meeting to Monday, November 22 which
members preferred and aslced if the Commission would be open to starting their meetings at 7:00
p.m. Commissioners said they would prefer starting their meetings at 7:00 p.m. ifpossible.
2
