Donations could also be accepted for community projects. Mr. Schumann would also like to see
the Cultural Activities events better promoted through a website. Mr. Cora felt this type of
event, especially involving the schools, would be well attended. Ms. Wenger said perhaps the
events could include picnics in the park similar to those held at the Blossom Music Center. Mr.
Wahl suggested the theme "Welcome to Summer North Olmsted" on or around June 21. He
feels the name of the City should be included in all the event titles. Hosting movies in the park
was also discussed. Mr. Schumann will gauge the interest of fellow musicians and report back to
Mr. Kepperley. Mr. Wahl's son is a member of the Rock Hall Band. Finding a mutual
acceptable date may be difficult but perhaps they could be persuaded to perform in North
Olmsted. A rain date would also be needed for outdoor events.
OLD BUSINESS
Juried Arts & Crafts Festiva12010
The application forms were printed at City Hall; 500 were mailed on February 1. Copies were
supplied to those present for distribution. Mr. Kepperley expects to begin receiving responses in
April or May. He has begun to line up local music groups including a string quartet. He will
invite student musicians and intends to offer a booth at no cost to the Cleveland Institute of Art.
High School art show pieces will again be included, which the Cultural Activities Commission
will jury in May. Between 70 and 100 works of student art will be displayed.
Promotional ideas were discussed. Ms. Wenger said information on the art show may be
included the monthly Senior Center newsletter and a Recreation Department mailing that will be
sent in April. In addition, an article can be published in the Westlife and Sun News. Mayor
Kennedy said he could mention it in his Mayor's Corner on the front page of the Senior Center
newsletter closer to the show. He also suggested having a full page insert in the local papers.
Mr. Kepperley would like the banners to be installed earlier this year, in May. CEI approval is
required for new locations. Mr. Kepperley is seeking funds to purchase additional banners.
Ms. Brown mentioned she still has the $ 3 0 certificate towards admissions fees for a high school
student interested in attending the Cleveland Institute of Art.
Communitv Garden Proiect
There were differing opinions on whether Cultural Activities should be involved in a community
garden. Ms. Wenger explained the North Olmsted Master Gardeners have been looking for a
place to develop a garden. Of the properties considered, the City-owned property on Butternut
Ridge, where relocation of the food cupboard is proposed, is the best location with its large rear
yard. The City has applied for a grant to fund necessary building renovations. Water is available
for the gardens and food cupboard clients would benefit from fresh produce. The Cuyahoga
County Department of Development recently initiated a parks and playgrounds grant that
includes community gardens for up to $5,000; the property on Butternut Ridge fits their criteria.
If the Master Gardeners or another civic organization commits to spearheading the project Ms.
Wenger will consider applying for the grant.
