LANDMARKS COMMISSION <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />MEETING MINUTES OF FEBRUARY 8, 2010 <br />ROLL CALL <br />Mr. Schumann called the meeting to order at 7:07 p.m. in Council Chambers and Mr. Dubowski <br />led the Pledge of Allegiance. <br />Present: Tom Dubowski, Maryellen Davis, Dale Thomas, Paul Schumann, Don Rerko, <br />Albert Richner, David Neville <br />Absent: John Lasko, Mark Mahoney <br />Staff: Mayor Kevin Kennedy, Planning Director Kimberly Wenger, Assistant Law <br />Director Bryan O'Malley, Secretary Tricia Granfors <br />OATH OF OFFICE <br />Mayor Kennedy administered the Oath of Office to Paul Schumann, Don Rerko, David Neville, <br />and Albert Richner. <br />ELECT CHAIR AND VICE CHAIR <br />Mr. Rerko nominated Mr. Schumann for the position of Landmarks Commission Chair, <br />which was seconded by Mr. Dubowski and unanimously approved. <br />Mr. Schumann nominated Mr. Thomas for the position of Vice Chair, which was seconded <br />by Ms. Davis and unanimously approved. <br />REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES <br />The minutes of January 11, 2010 were approved as written. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />Revised Boards and Commissions Handbook <br />Mr. Schumann acknowledged the revised Boards and Commissions Handbook, noting it gives <br />the new members a good idea of the duties and goals of the Landmaxks Commission. One of the <br />primary tasks is to oversee building alterations in the Butternut Ridge Historic District, which <br />consists of 300 feet on either side of Butternut Ridge Road from the intersection with Columbia <br />Road to the intersection with Lorain Road. When a resident of the District applies to the <br />Building Department for improvements or alterations, the applicant must appear before the <br />Landmarks Commission to petition for a Certificate of Appropriateness. The goal is to partner <br />with the resident for a successful project while using appropriate preservation materials and <br />methods in compliance with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation. <br />Concerning compliance, Mr. O'Malley said the Landmarks Commission can prohibit owners <br />from obtaining permits for noncompliant projects.
