CULTURAL ACTIVITIES COMMISSIOIri <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />MINUTES OF MAY 4, 2011 <br />ROLL CALL <br />Chair Yustick called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. at the North Olmsted Branch Library. <br />Present: Beverle Martindale, David Wahl, Gerald Yustick, Nasreen Starner, Barbara <br />Brown <br />Absent: Miguel Cora <br />Visitors: Planning & Development Director Kimberly Wenger, Councilman Paul <br />Schumann, North Coast Promotions Lisa Nemeth, Barb Schirhart <br />Mr. Yustick asked for a moment of silence in remembrance of John Kepperley. <br />REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES <br />Ms. Starner moved, seconded by Mr. Wahl, to approve the Apri16, 2011 minutes, which <br />was approved 4-0. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />Olrnsted Festival of the Arts <br />Mr. Wahl introduced Barb Schirhart representing the Kiwanis Club of North Olmsted who will <br />serve as a liaison between the Commission and Kiwanis and is considering joining the Cultural <br />Activities Commission. Mr. Wahl said there were five application packets sent out and two <br />applications received. He reviewed checks received for sponsorship from Manor Care, Pinball <br />Shoppe, and Advanced Dentistry for the Festival. He received a letter from the Visiting Nurses <br />Association which serves hospice families stating they would like to receive an application and <br />noted they are a non-profit group. A brief discussion ensued pertaining to non-profit groups <br />having their fee waived if proper documents are submitted. Ms. Nemeth suggested requiring a <br />$25 dollar deposit from all non-profits which submit for a booth. If the applicant shows up to the <br />even as scheduled the $25 dollars is refunded. If the applicant does not attend it will cover the <br />cost for the space left open. Ms. Wenger said that the commission should loolc at requiring any <br />fee changes for next years art show once the 2011 show is over. Mr. Yustick said he would be <br />willing to take on some of the responsibilities to assist with the art show. Mr. Wahl said the <br />North Olmsted High School art show had started and the school would be willing to open the <br />school one evening so the commission could come through to see the work and marlc those <br />pieces of art they would lilce to have at the festival. <br />Mr. Wahl moved, seconded by 1VIs. Starner, to approve the application of Karen <br />Vagarasoto which passed 4-1. <br />Mr. Wahl moved, seconded by 1VIs. Starner, to app, rove the application of Patrick Burke <br />which passed 5-0.
