?
area. The service area has a very high screening wall that decreases in size until it reaches the rod
iron fence. They have been faxing different drawings back and forth to Mr. Liggett to refine the
detailing of the area. As of this evening he is still communicating with Mr. LigDett to make sure it
has the right screening and setback from the street to make sure it has a proper appearance. Mr.
Self, from CVS and Sign Inc. commented that the building that is being designed for North
Olmsted is unlike any other building CVS has built. Pictures of a standard CVS proto-type
buildings were passed out to the board members and reviewed. The signs have also beeri changed
£or this building; a monument sign will be used at the entranceways. The brickwork on the
manument sign would match the brick on the building. The plans show that there will be a
da:y-time view as well as a night view. The only thing that will be illuminated is the white CVS
letters and drive-throu pharmacy. Signage plans were passed out to the board members for their
review. Mr. Self indicated that he had been informed that banner signs were not allowed in North
Olmsted and they would like to go before the Board of Zoning Appeals to be allowed to have a
banner for one week during their grand opening. There will be a minimum of 2 sets of illuminated
ietters about 48 inches on the building. Sometimes 3 sets of letters are used if there is more than
tfiree driveways. There is 1 set of letters on the front facade, a set of letters on the wall that faces
':}?e parking lot there will be non illuminated letters that will be white and read 1-hour photo and
??>ud-mart. They will not be seen from the road, but are there for the customers when they come
onto the lot. Mr. Brennan questioned the new drawings as they showed red letters and Mr. Self
II;:piied the lettering would be white. Mr. Wajtila reviewed that CVS usually used all red letters
wit h a white background, but when the stone was changed it washed out the letters so the letters
01< <ne interior building were changed back to red. Mr. Brennan questioned if the interior letters
would be illuminated. Mr. Se1f commented that the CVS pharmacy letters would be illuminated.
N`,v. Brennan questioned why a sign that faced a residential area was illuminated. Mr. Tallon
conimented that the only letters that would be needed is CVS as everyone knows, that CVS is a
p?harmacy and the signage on the east and west sides of the building should be removed as it
wc.ild only face residents. Mrs. O'Rourke commented that the CVS Pharmacy sign that faced the
c<<Ener of Lorain, Porter and Butternut was all that was needed. Mr. Koeth indicated that there
v-;--s a monument sign at the entrance of Porter Road that reads drive-thru pharmacy, which
sf?(.)uld be enough. Mr. Self asked for clarification as to what signs could remain. W. Koeth
iTi?:;icated that on view 2 that shows the parking area he would not be opposed to the signage that
is iliere. Mr. Tallon indicated that those signs would be fine but, the 2 wall signs in view 1 should
b?: eliminated because there will be signs at the entrance. Mr. Tallon indicated that the only
?i,nage needed on Porter Road would be an entrance sign. It could say CVS Pharmacy entrance.
M:-. Brennan questioned why the entrance sign on Porter Road needed to be lit as it faced a
re::;::?ent's home. Mr. Self commented that the entrance sign and store hour sian needed to be lit
sa tlie entrance and store hours could be seen at night. He further commented that the letter size
was minimal and would not be an ambient light. The backgrounds will be a bronze color and only
the l.etters will be lit. The service area of the monument sign is 20 square feet and the letters will
only be 16 inches for the CVS letters and Pharmacy letters are 8-inch letters. Mr. Brennan
conuiiented that once the building is completed it would be hard to miss that it is a CVS
Phai-rllacy so a11 the signage is not needed. Mr. Tallon suggested lighted sign "G" could remain
on the north side of the driveway but remove sign "C". Mr. Asseff indicated that entrance signs
were needed at both entrances, or the entrance on Porter could be missed and then the residents
would be burdened with cars turning around in their drives because they missed the entrance of
the store. Mr. Tallon suggested that the only sign needed on Porter Road was a lit entrance sign.
The applicants are asking for 15 signs for the site and questioned how much signage was really
2
