Deichmaim, P.E.
City Engineer
SUBJECT: Proposed Bennigan's Restaurant
4824 Great Northern $lvd.
This site has no direct access to a public roadway. The Great Northern Mall/Shopping Center
ring road and Great Northern Blvd. access roadway must be used. Unforiunately, this section of
roadway is one of the major shopping center access points and a number of driver decisions inust
be made while traversing this curvy 450 feet. There are currently four openings in the curb to
access the site from this roadway (see attached sheet). Number 3 is to be closed per the restaur-
ant plans, Number 4 is to be widened and Numbers 1 and 2 are to remain as is.
AREAS OF CONCERN
' Vehicles ui parking spaces A and B cannot possibly back out without entering the busy
malllshopping center access roadway. Vehicles in parking spaces C and D could possibly
back out without entering the access roadway, but it is very doubtful.
Left turning vehicles exiting the site from opening Number 1 would have to drive across a
concrete median island in the access roadway. This opening is only about 150 feet from
Great Northern Blvd. ' The widening of opening Number 4 is being done in such a manner as to move it closer to
the intersection of the access roadway and the ring road.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Three openings to the site are not needed; one on each side of the restaurant is plenty.
Opening Number 1 should Ue closed. This would eliminate the problem with parking spaces
C and D.
2. Parking spaces A and B should be eliminated.
3. If possible, opening Number 4 should be moved north to directly line up with the parking lot
aisle immediately south of Brookpark Road.
Larry J. riffith, P.E.
Assistant City Engineer
LJG/tag
Attaclunents
cc: Ralph H.
