to contain the water and disperse it before it flows into the drainage ditch. Mr. Costa questioned the
board's function. Building Commissioner Conway advised the function is to address a lot that is less
than 50 foot in width to see if the drainage has a significant adverse impact on abutting property
owners. He clarified the board is addressing the drainage, but only because it is less than 50 feet in
width. Mr. Costa questioned where the fifty foot came from Mr. Conway noted this has been part of
the building code since the 1970's. He advised some of these ord.inances were adopted before the city
had an Engineering Department and grading plans were not required. At that time, because there was
not an Engineering Department, this board was used for review. The Building Commissioner would
like to see this part of the legislation removed as Engineering should address these issues. Mr. Nashar
explained flood.ing has been an ongoing problem throughout the city. Mr. Conway advised the residents
to contact the engineering department if someone is filling in the ditch. The clerk advised this case will
be heard by the board of zoning appeals on May 1, 1997 and explained the notification procedure.
V. NEW BUSINESS:
No Items.
VI.
