1
will be replaced with. Mr. Petty replied that they are putting a double 4 1/2 inch siding
which is a special panel formulated by Sears, it has a natural hem to where if you look at
your old wood lap siding you can see a shadow line in between, this doesn't have the shadow
line. B. Lord commented that one of the things the Landmarks Commission needs to deal
with is there is no recommendation that vinyl or aluminum siding be used to replace wood in
terms of historic homes. M. Gareau Jr. commented that it might be a help to the board to
have the owner of the home at a meeting for more information about the house. He then read
from the ordinance: that the application once made we have the opportunity at this point and
time to either issue a certificate of appropriateness if we found the proposed work is
compatible with the character of the Landmark District or alternatively we can designate a
time, date, and place for a public hearing to be held no longer than 45 days fi-om the date of
the seat of the permanent application by the commission. He then commented that he did not
know what the exact date was which the board received that, but it has to be set within 45
days, so presumably the board could do it at the next meeting.
P. Barker moved to postpone Fred Biszantz of 26561 Butternut Ridge Rd. until the next
months meeting, due to the owner's absence and the need for his input to the board about his
home. The motion was seconded by C. Miller and was unanimously approved.
N. COMMUNICATIONS:
B. Lord commented that there are many communications that were in each board members
packet. There is an updated copy of the boards and commissions members listing and phone
numbers. She then questioned if anyone had any other communications that need to be
discussed. M. Gareau Jr. suggested that someone call the Clerk of Commissions tomorrow
morning and let her know that there is going to be a hearing set. There will be a need for
special notification, which is in section 165.07 (G) and (H). P. Barker replied that he would
call and let the clerk know.
Doug and Virginia Baldi of 26706 Butternut Ridge Rci. have come to the board to ask
questions. Mr. Baldi indicated that they have owned the house for a number of years. He
then indicated they stripped the entire front side of the house down to the bare wood, sanded
it, re-painted it, re-built the porch roof, and things like that anyone can notice from the front .
of the house. He commented that they did not put the addition on that is on the right hand
side of the photograph, which was erected already when they purchased the home. He
indicated they have been in the process of stripping the west side of the house with the intent
of re-painting it to match the front. The Baldi's neighbors have decided to hold a grudge
against them and they have sent out the Building Department to deal with the Baldi's.
Recently they have been ordered to finish painting the side of the house within 30 days,
which Mr. Baldi believes is not long enough for him to get the job done right. He plans on
having the side of the house done by the end of the year, but doesn't think it will be done by
October 6, 2000 which is the date the Building Department gave him. The porch ceiling has
boards that need replacing but originally this porch had a stone rail on it and they really want
to replace all of that in one project. M. Gareau Jr. commented that it comes down to being a
property maintenance issue. He then recommended that they contact Councilman McKay, it
shouldn't be a problem getting the Baldi's some extra time if they know they are working on .
the house. . Mr. McKay won't be able to grant it, but he will be able to talk to Mr. Conway
and people in the Building Department whom haven't been so helpful to the Baldi's.
