w.
? closely as possible. Mrs. Lord questioned how old the house was. Mr. Riggs indicated that it
was built in 1938. Mrs. Lord questioned if the board had any further questions or problems.
G. Corell motioned to grant Eric Riggs of 26533 Butternut Ridge Rd. his request certificate
of appropriateness for a new roof in the historic district. To tear off and replace his roof with
as close to the exact replacement as the existing roof using same colors and type shingles.
The motion was seconded by A. Smeraldi and unanimously approved. Certificate Granted
5/fl4/O1.
IV. COlVIM[JNICATIONS:
A) I)on Copeland, Director of Human Resources for the City of North Olmsted, was present.
He indicated that he would like to do something to honor the elder people of the
community and get an oral history of the City from these people who have been in this
City for their lifetime. Then they could put what the people have said and talked about to
print. This would allow them to do a historical review of the City and a short biography
of the person who gave us the historical view of the City. The thing that would go with it
would be a sketch, not a portrait, of the person who gave the history. That would be
compiled and hopefully developed into some kind of book form. He is thinking of using
site students and volunteers to give the oral histories. He then indicated that he would not
need money from the board or if he does need money for this project he will find a way
to come up with it. He wants three things from the Landmarks Commission: Their
sponsorship, help in deciding who to interview from the different age categories, and
their different ideas as to help collaborate this project together. He would like to see this
project get started this summer. This would all be done in and through the Human
Resources Department and hopefully when they have a finished product that people will
want to buy. Profits would go to the Human Resources Department Community Fund.
B) Joseph Lang, a former Landmarks member, was present. He questioned if a few
addresses on Butternut Ridge Rd. had been before the board to do work on their homes.
Mrs. Lord indicated that she wanted it to reflect in the minutes that there is a roof going
on that did not come through the board on the south side of Butternut and about three
doors east of Fitch Rd.
C) Mrs. Lord indicated that the board is now part of the Ohio Restoration Society and two
other Landinarks related societies. Their unencumbered budget is $1,685.
D) Mrs. Lord cominented that the Mayor had given each board a task to complete. He had
asked, what does North Olmsted needs to do to become a premier City. It could be 5
years down the road or it could be 75 years down the road. If every board member could
jot a few ideas down and send it to Mrs. Lord, she would put it all together and present it
to the Mayor.
V. COMIVII'TTEE REPORTS:
1V1i-s. VanAuken indicated that the Landmarks Commission had received a letter from the
Mayor. He wants the Landmarks input on what style architecture should be used for the
new library. Mrs. VanAuken was asked to do some research on this for the commission.
She called the county library system and asked them if they know of any colonial style
libraries that are around so that we could get pictures of it. In Chagrin Falls there was a
building that when it was built it was meant to be a library and it functioned as a library
2
