. .
Mission Statement:
The Cultural Arts Commission of the City of North Olmsted encourages, promotes, and
showcases visua] and performance based arts for its citizens.
B. App motioned to adopt the mission statement for the board. The motion was seconded by
L. Beach and was unanimously approved.
Chairman Raig suggested that the board inembers think about the different goals and
objectives they would Iike to see the board achieve. This discussion would take place at the
next meeting.
IV. OLD BUSINESS:
Chairman Raig indicated that they had talked at the last meeting about expanding the number
of board members to 11 people and staggering the terms by making some two-year terms.
The Clerk indicated to the board that they would need a sponsor to get this done, Mr. Raig
indicated that he had met with the Mayor and he suggested that he would sponsor this. He
believes they should stagger the tenns to be 3-year terms.
M. Raig inotioned to have someone draw up the ordinance to get the terms to be 3 years and
staggered at 4, 4, and 3. R. Garland seconded the motion and was unanimously approved.
There was discussion brought up by Mrs. Beach as to getting seed money for the board. Mr.
Raig suggested a fundraiser. It would be good to aet monies for advertising to help the
public know that this board is here. Mrs. Beach commented that they talked about holding an
event at Spi-ingvale, but she has reservations about this because it would take money to put
on, which the board doesn't have, and there is a risk factor involved not knowing how many
people would show up or be interested. She recommended some type of charter membership
for the Cultural Arts council, even though they wouldn't be part of the commission itself, but
maybe they could put out a newsletter for those members. Mr. Garland indicated that the
idea sounds great but questioned if she was going to write a newsletter. Mrs. Beach replied
that she probably wouldn't physically write it, but one of their functions is to umbrella off of
other groups that already exist. Mr. Garland indicated that they could coordinate with the
High School when they put on their drama production. Mrs. Martindale explained how
royalties work and how expensive they could be. Mr. Thompson suggested they put
something together at the Library to market this and get peoples attention. 1V1rs. Beach
indicated that they could even just put a blurb in the paper to see what kind of response they
get. Mr. Thompson suggested that the City does have its own cable channel and they could
also put something on there. Mrs. Beach indicated that she would investigate into these
things. She wanted to gather a list of organizations that exist in North Olmsted that are
somehow arts related. Mr. Garland suggested using the Community Councils list. He could
get that for her from the Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. App questioned if it was online on
their web page. Mr. Garland replied no, it is not online, but he could make it available for all
the board members. Mrs. Beach questioned if the Mayor sent out newsletters every year.
She wondered if that wouldn't be something they could attach on to and save money in the
process. Mr. Garland indicated that the Mayor does do a newsletter about four times per
2
