iridicated they were happy with what is there now. He said Planning Commission told them they
mrant the poles. Ms. Schulz asked if they have cut sheets. There was discussion about the lighting.
N7i-. Chambers indicated the lights will be turned off by 9:30 p.m. Mr. Yager asked to address the
si.gn so they can move along. Mr. Grusenmeyer showed the board members a photo of the sign at
tlie Chambers facility on Rocky River Drive. They have tried to blend in the sign as much as
possible as requested but they also want to maintain some continuity. Mr. Chambers said they are
looking to tie it into the Rocky River Drive location, which is their main location. They did take into
aonsideration other ideas when they talked with people in North Olmsted. Ms. Schulz asked about
tlie base of the sign. Mr. Grusenmeyer indicated it is an aluminum base. Mr. Liggett asked if they
c-ould go with a masonry base on the sign to go along with the rest of the building. Mr. Chambers
ir?dicated they could do that. He mentioned that the City of Fairview did that with their sign. Mr.
Y'ager pointed out they already have a mason on the site. Mr. Yager said the site is the bigger issue
and suggested talking about that. He mentioned that he and Mrs. Nader attended the library meeting
and the Mayor brought this up specifically. The Mayor indicated he would like this to be the look of
tlie city. The building would have an older look about it and in a funeral home it seems an
appropriate image. He said that taking something that still looks like The Back Wall, the old
racquetball club, and turning it into something different is a good thing. Adding windows and
adding brick where there is presently other material, taking offthe mansard, is all a step forward. He
i:; a little stumped by the cornice ending and bricks going up behind it proportionally. He would
le;ave that in Mr. Grusenmeyer's hands. He said the look is very quiet and wholesome. He does not
see a problem with the architecture of the building beyond just simple proportions. He added the
rrtechanical units are hidden, and they are trying to salvage as many trees as possible. This is a good
tliing and appropriate. He was hoping for a little more landscaping in the front. He was surprised at
tlie sign being blue. He can appreciate the applicant wanting to keep some visibility but they have a
VJestern Reserve look to the building. He said he thinks it could be a white sign, but he is not really
concerned about the sign. He added he likes the idea of fewer lights and suggested spreading them
out. Mr. Yager indicated that the pole lighting is a better lighting. Mrs. Nader asked how they are
e:nclosing the dumpster. Mr. Grusenmeyer indicated it is fully enclosed with a board on board fence.
Mr. Liggett said with the exception of the height of the poles, he agrees with the design. Mrs. Nader
a:nd Ms. Schulz indicated they like the proposal. Mr. Zergott indicated he is very pleased with the
building.
N7. Yager made a motion that they approve the presentation as submitted with the following
comments: 1). The forester is to evaluate the back property line for the use of a brick wall relative to
tlie existing planting program and try to salvage a number of possibly large, invaluable trees, 2). The
si.gn is to have a masonry base incorporated into it, 3). The lights are to be put on 15-foot poles and
spread as far out as possible. The motion was seconded by T. Liggett and unanimously approved.
N2r. Yager indicated he likes the overall presentation and looks forward to seeing the renovations.
NZr. Zergott inquired about the large tree in the southeast corner. Mr. Yager indicated that should be
covered by the forester's report and really does not create another conundrum. Mr. Chambers
ir?dicated he would like to view the site along with the forester. Mrs. Kilbane indicated the forester
has been asked to give a report and she will arrange a meeting out at the site so that Mr. Chambers
c,an attend. Mr. Zergott thanked the applicants and wished them luck with their proposal. Mrs.
K:ilbane indicated she will try to get additional information about the situation with the councilmen.
N7r. Grusenmeyer indicated he will leave an additional copy of the plan with the 15-foot layout.
VI.
