.a;
all brick: He said the samples are a mixture; it is a Georgetown style with white in it. The idea is to
aet rid of any material on the outside that is not brick. Mr. O'Malley mentioned that the residents are
not i;n a position to hear the discussion and requested they speak so the audience can observe and hear
what is being explained. Mr. Grusenmeyer explained the samples to audience members. He said the
bricl.c is a replication of the brick that is currently on two sides of the building. The building is
currently faced primarily on the west and north side with that brick. They are looking to remove all
the i.naterial on the south side that is not brick, and all the material on the east side that is not brick.
The intention is to blend the material all the way around the building. It will be a colonial, or Western
ResE;rve style building. The sample of the shingle is a dimensional shingle so it is intended to look
like a slate style shingle. All current shingles will be replaced with the slate style. There is a mansard
on the building which comes down and they will be removing the bottom 3 feet of that so that can
place a cornice along that area to give it a colonia] look and have the single-story appearance on those
sides remain. In addition, the other sample is a masonry material, which will be used in the masonry
bancis that go below the windowsills. They will use a smooth faced masonry material below those
sills and that replicates some of the details that they anticipate using on the library. The sill bands,
jack arches at the head, colonial brick, the entrances, and the details over the doors are intended to
repli;cate that building. They have included in the plans the elevations of the entire building. They
will be cutting many additional windows in the west elevation and the reason is to relieve part of that
side. There is a long stretch of brick on that side. The two sides will have a single-story appearance.
Mrs. O'Rourke asked if the facility will be handicapped accessible. Mr. Grusenmeyer said there are
threi-I steps coming up from the parking lot into the existing building. They will be raising the level of
the parking lot in that area about 18 inches from a gradual slope as they repave it so when they drive
up tinder the porte cochere you would be able to roll straight into the building off a ramp. The
buil(ling will be completely accessible. They have an extensive amount of landscaping currently
arou:nd the building. They have three residents behind them and they have a variation of plantings.
Starting on the west, there is an existing white picket fence, which runs along with a number of pine
trees. He passed out pictures of that area. They would like to ereate a buffer for the residents behind
them. They looked at the materials there, the number of pine trees, and the picket fence. There is a
thiclc juniper growth behind the second lot and they would like to continue that juniper growth on their
property as a buffer. The third property has pine trees behind it. They will maintain the trees on their
site right near the property line. They will be interspersing in a hedgerow another 9 larger size pine
trees which are intended to create a buffer. They would like to continue a lot of what has been done.
The:y would like to have a thick planting of evergreen material alorig the rear as a buffer for the
property. They have an outline on the front page of the plan that covers the items that need to be
addi•essed by zoning ordinances. They are asking for a land bank of 3-4 spaces. They want to save 3
of tlle larger trees in front. They are excited about the project and feel it will be good for North
Olmsted. They believe it will be a nice renovation of a building that has become a bit tired in its
appf;arance. He indicated they would welcome any questions on the project. Mrs. O'Rourke asked
abotrt raising the pavement. Mr. Grusenmeyer indicated it will be just in front of the entrance area.
She asked how that would affect drainage. Mr. Grusenmeyer replied that they anticipate using the
sam-. drainage points they have now. There will be some additional area of paving and the engineer
they have engaged will design any retention as required by the City. They received a number of
comments from the Engineering Department. Mr. Grusenmeyer was informed any issues can be
addt•essed once the project is approved and it goes before the Engineering Department. Mr. Spalding
inquired about the parking. He pointed out the chapel can accommodate approximately 130 people,
and if it is full, based on the parking in the plans, he does not believe the parking would be adequate.
Mr. Grusenmeyer said they will not use the chapel and the repose rooms at the same time. Mr. Koeth
aske:d Mr. Rymarczyk if Chambers meets the requirements for parking. Mr. Rymarczyk indicated
they do and the request for 3 land-banked spots gives them what they need. Mr. Grusenmeyer pointed
4
