COMIVIITTEE REPORTS:
VI. OLD BUSINESS:
Mrs. Lord recapped discussion on the walking tour. She mentioned the computer program having names
based on what they knew at the time. There is no database that will automatically update the information.
She said they need to do further work and perhaps break things up by sections of town and do some
visual work. They need to talk to the owners and research things about the roads, the schools and
churches. Those human-interest things add to the listings. She mentioned they talked about adding
information to the brochure that might include a little information about OHI, the National Register, the
Landmarks Commission, and any of those kinds of things that have an impact on people. The board feels
that some information gathering needs to be done to update everything. They had talked about putting it
in a format and style that is updated from the very dated look it currently has. They could use pictures as
well. They need to put those things in place before they start promoting any kind of tour. The board has
recommended that they do Butternut Ridge first because it gives them a clump that they can market and
promote and then progressively do the rest of the community. It can be marketed as a self-guided tour as
it always was, as well as a Landmark guided tour as available. The size can be contained somewhat by
the nature of the group. Chairman Lord said they discussed hitting some target times in the city when
people come together. For instance, offer it during homecoming, All Scouts weekend, when you would
have a captive audience. She said brochures could be handed out during the Memorial Day parade, etc.
She said they talked about the bicentennial and homecoming this year. She said Mrs. Davis checked and
there is no theme yet for this year. Mrs. VanAuken asked if they would offer a short version tour during
homecoming. Mrs. Lord said homecoming is going to be early this year and perhaps they can look into
it. Mrs. VanAuken asked if the tour could be done using Lolly the Trolley. Mrs. Lord indicated they
have done that before. Mrs. Davis said that Fairview is doing that for the bicentennial in conjunction
with their library. There was discussion about charging for that kind of tour. Mr. Lang brought up the
old NOMBL bus. Mrs. Lord said there are lots of good ideas and they need to set some deadlines. She
said perhaps by the March meeting they can share the information about Butternut Ridge. She said
everyone needs to be involved. They can have a start up meeting to figure out who will do what and visit
the files to see what is there. The next meeting is January 13th. Mrs. Lord suggested getting together on
the Saturday before that, the 11t' of January at 9:30 a.m. until 11:00. She mentioned that she did e-mail
the resident on Barton Road. She also e-mailed the Ohio Historical Society to request the current CLG
information.
VII. ADJOURNMENT: Chairman Lord adjourned the meeting at approximately 9:00 p.m.
Betty Ldrd, Chairman Da?b' _/ Annie Kilbane, Assistant Clerk of Commissions
5
