ROLL CALL: Chairman Lord called the meeting to order at 7:10 P.M.
PRESENT: Chairman B. Lord, Board Members, M. Davis, L. VanAuken, G. Corell
ABSENT: P. Barker, K. O'Rourke, D. Lind, and J. I)ailey
Note: A. Smeraldi has resigned from the board
Mrs. Lord welcomed guests to the meeting. She indicated the board was a bit short staffed. She
explained that Mr. Barker was excused from the meeting but he may be able to join in later.
Mrs. Lord indicated the board members should have all received a copy of the letter from Mr. Smeraldi
indicating he respectfully resigned from the board. She said they will talk later in the meeting about what
they might want to do in terms of thanking him for his many years of participation. She said the board
has suggested a few ideas for a replacement knowing that the Council will take it under advisement. One
suagestion was Mr. Joe Larig. The other idea is to establish a high school senior seat that each year can
be taken over by someone in the current year's senior class. She indicated, any other suggestions would
be welcome.
II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF IVdINiJTES: The Landmarks Commission minutes of the February
11, 2002 meeting have been submitted for approval. Mrs. VanAuken pointed out an adjustment she
would like made on page two. Mr. Corell made a motion to accept the minutes as amended. The motion
was seconded by Mrs. Davis and unanimously approved.
Ivlr. Corell had to be excused to take care of a family matter.
III. NEW BUSINESS:
Mrs. Lord suggested changing the order of the agenda since there were guests present. Mrs. Davis
moved to change the order of the agenda. The motion was seconded by Mrs. VanAuken. There is no
longer a quorum so it is no longer an official meeting at this point. Chairman Lord welcomed the three
guests in attendance. She introduced Mr. Leonard Frick who was invited to the meeting by Mr. Corell.
Mr. Frick indicated he is responsible for the real estate that the school district owns in the city. He found
documents in the cellar of the Butternut building that were floating in sewer water. He said some may
not be of historic value, but he does have some documents that appear to be of value because of their '
age. There are titles to real estate that the school district owned. They need to be preserved, or restored.
He showed a quit claim deed to the property at the corner, the old Butternut Elementary, dated 1909. He
showed another one he has, probably the oldest, for the Coe property; the Coe Eleinentary School that no
longer exists. It goes back to 1917 but he has one that precedes that. It goes back to 1859. It is a hand-
written deed. He showed the board members the document, which is in bad condition. He is not sure -
what the district can do. He shared other documents with the commission. Mrs. Lord asked if he had
made copies of the documents. Mr. Frick replied he had not done anything because he is not certain what
copying will do to them. Some of the newer documents are even more fragile. He pointed out that they
used surgical gloves to look at the documents. Mrs. Lord pointed out one document that had three
different properties on one deed. Mrs. VanAuken asked if the county archive people might know how to
do something with the material. Mrs. Lord said they might be a good resource, along with the Western
Reserve Historical Society. The other item Mr. Frick brought up was from the early 1960's. It is the
permanent parcel book for the City of North Olmsted. He does not believe it has been updated since it
was published. Mrs. Davis said they do not do it the same way anymore. They looked over the book and
discussed how it was used and some of the information contained in it. Mr. Frick said some of the
.r.
