longer living there and is very concerned about making repairs without having to come before
Landmarks. It will need to be fixed so the house can transfer. Mrs. Lord said she does not believe they
have the authority to change the legislation. Mrs. Davis said she thinks if it is the garage and the garage
doors, and not the house, they have to fix, they may be able to repair them without a building permit.
Mrs. Lord said they have to follow the regulations that take them through the city. If it requires a
building permit, they have to do it. Mrs. Davis wondered if that happened, would there be any way that
Landmarks can consult a quorum if the owners had all their material ready so they can proceed. Mrs.
Lord said they have never been asked to do that but it would seem, under the circumstances of it not
being purposeful, that they should be able to. She said they would still have to go through the Building
Department, and that takes some time. If it would come to that, she suggested the owner let Mrs. Davis
know, and perhaps Landmarks can talk to someone in the Building Department. Mrs. Lord said there
isn't any provision that relates to emergency situations but it might be in the Building Department codes.
Mrs. Lord said they did check with Mr. Corell regarding the stone house. He had not discussed it yet,
but he will handle it because the board would like to go in the spring. She is not sure if Mr. Lind went to
the regional meeting. Mrs. Davis brought up The Local Historian in which there was a note about
attending Ohio's Oral History Institute. The board members expressed great interest in that item. Mrs.
Lord said it would appear from the budget information, they have no money. Mrs. Davis said it is not too
far away and it sounds very interesting. Mrs. Lord reminded the members present of the need to get an
oral history from Mr. Frick before he retires. They need to capture his 42 years of experience with the
schools. She suggested letting Don Copeland know about it because he is managing the oral history
project. Mrs. Davis referred to the article on obtaining oral histories. Mrs. Lord asked if Mrs. Davis
would be interested in going. She suggested that Mrs. Davis talk to Don Copeland about it because it
looks as if there is an application process. Mrs. Davis said the participation is limited to 30. Mrs. Lord
said she thinks a link between the city and the high school program might be helpful. Mrs. Lord asked
Mrs. Davis to call Mr. Copeland and then give her a call so they can put something together. Mrs.
VanAuken pointed out that Cleveland is having a national preservation conference in October. Mrs. Lord
said if anyone wants to be a part of it, she would strongly encourage it. Mrs. Lord asked if they would
have any reason to get some of the tri-folds being offered by the National Trust. It was sugjested they
have someone take them to the library, and put some at city hall.
Mrs. Lord asked Mrs. VanAuken about the newspaper/Olmsted Falls issue. Mrs. VanAuken said the
newspaper editor appointed a gentleman, Mr. Marsh, to look into it with a fresh eye and see who was
right on this story. They ran a story about the ox cart library and it said it was all done in Olmsted Falls.
Mrs. VanAuken told him about ail the things that happened in North Olmsted. He said he would have
someone from the paper look into the facts. Mrs. VanAuken spoke with the man assigned to it and told
him she would be glad to send any information he needed. She gathered a couple of things from her files
at home. One item was written by someone from the Olmsted Historical Society. It tells what really
happened. She sent that off to him and she looked up references in the grant material and she gave that
to him as well. He would let her know when they figure it all out and they will print a retraction or
correction in the paper. She has not seen that yet and has not gotten a call. Mrs. VanAuken pointed out
it was really an ad in the paper. It was a double page ad about Olmsted Falls. She showed the members
the paper that had incorrect information, attributing a lot of events to Olmsted Falls. There is so much to
the story it doesn't seem fair to give it all to Olmsted Falls, so she called him on it.
IV. ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
-?/8/D?-
Lord
Assist. Clerk of Commissions, Annie Kilbane
3
