garbage, which will add more expense to the library maintenance staff. Mrs. VanAuken expressed
concern because the library closes at 9:00 and there may be children out after that time. She added that
they think the idea of a gazebo is a good one and will give a beautiful building a special look to it, but
they would like to suggest a different way of doing it. .They are not trying to get rid of something in
particular but are trying to have something that is not a nuisance to the neighborhood. Mrs. Lord said
one suggestion was replacing the circle garden on a flat scale as opposed to an elevated one with
benches, but not things that may become misused. Mr. Lang asked for a call on the question.
P. Barker made a motion to have the board come up with another plan for the area that includes the
gazebo due to safety issues. The motion was seconded by L. VanAuken and unanimously approved.
J. Lang made a motion that the area depicted on the drawings from the architect for a gazebo be
replaced with a flat surfaced, circular garden area, with pathways of gardens which may be designed at a
later date. He said they need to stay away from the raised area, the concept of a gazebo. Keep the entire
surface flat. The motion was seconded by T. Dubowski. Mr. Barker said they spoke previously about
having arts or a school project to design the area. Mrs. Lord said if they are suggesting that, we have a
very active garden club that might make a nice pairing of the three groups: the garden club, Landmarks,
and the school. Mr. Lang said the school can research the design and the garden club can be one part of
the groups that will be responsible for planting different areas. Mrs. VanAuken mentioned the area in
Westlake along Hilliard Road. Mrs. Lord mentioned the trees are already paid for. Mr. Barker said it
may not be a bad idea to get the garden club and open it up pubiicity wise for other organizations and
have something like Hilliard Blvd. in a small area on Butternut Ridge where a lot of groups maintain
these beds or gardens. There will be more involvement, more people there and less chance for children
or anyone else coming in and vandalizing the area. Mrs. Lord said it is a wonderful way to ]ook at it if
they can continue to control that it has to be in keeping with a certain time period of North Olmsted and
the historic district. It becomes a project that requires research, documentation, and good volunteering.
Mr. Barker said it is a great idea and a community project. The motion was unanimously approved.
V.
VI.
VII.
P. Barker made a motion that they include in their recommendations the rethinking of the pick up
window at the drop off site of the library while changes can be made. The motion was seconded by J.
Lang and unaniinously approved.
P. Barker inade a motion to recommend the appropriate placement of flagpoles. The motion was
seconded by T. Dubowski and unanimously approved.
T. Dubowski made a motion to recommend a new bus stop be put at the Lorain Rd. entrance, east of the
driveway. The motion was seconded by P. Barker and unanimously approved.
COIVIlVIITTEE REPORTS: OLD BUSINESS:
ADJOLTRNMENT: Chairman Lord adjourned the meeting at approximately 8:30 p.m.
Lord
L j
Date
?og-,
Assistant Clerk of Commissions, Annie Kilbane
` •.

4
