Note: Applicant's total is inclusive of all existing signs already permitted on building. <br />Which is in violation of Ord. 90-125 section (1163.27 (a)), (1163.24 (c)), and (1163.24 (b)). The <br />motion was seconded by W. Kremzar and unareimously approved. Variances Granted as <br />Amended. <br />Note: The following is the re-calculation by the Building Department for the second variance. <br />2. A 283.95 square foot variance for more signage on a building than code permits (code permits 353 <br />sq. ft., applicant shows 632.95), section (116324 (b)) <br />3). The Vitamin Shoppe 26523 Lorain Road, WRD - 1 <br />NOTE: THIS PI20POSAL WAS WITHDRAWN A'T THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST. <br />4). The Daishin Restaurant, 26092 Great Northern Shopping Center. WRD - 4 <br />Request for variance (1123.12). The proposal consists of additional signage. <br />The following variances are requested: <br />1. A variance for 1-each additional sign on building (code permits 1, applicant shows 2), section <br />(1163.27 (a)). <br />2. A 49.75 square foot variance for total square footage of signage on building (code permits 50 sq. <br />ft., applicant shows 99.75 sq. ft.), section (1163.24 (b)). See note. <br />Note: Original sign placed at 49.875 sq. ft. New sign placed at 49.875 sq. ft. Total signs equa199.75 <br />sq. ft. with 50 sq. ft. being allowable, leaving a total of 49.75 sq. ft. being requested. <br />Which is in violation of Ord. 90-125 sections (1163.27 (a)), and (1163.24 (b)). <br />Chairman Maloney called all interested parties forward to review the request. Mr. Rich Denman came <br />forward on behalf of The Daishin Restaurant. He explained there is a sign up at the front of the store. <br />He said the owner feels his business is adversely affected by lack of identification. The building faces <br />Brookpark Road. He said that Panera Bread and Chuck E. Cheese both have signs back there and <br />when looking at it, one would assume those are the only two tenants in there. Mrs. Sergi asked if the <br />proposed sign would be the same size as the one on the front. Mr. Denman indicated it would be. <br />J. Konold made a motion to grant The Daishin Restaurant, 26092 Great Northern Shopping Center, its <br />request for variance which consists of additional signage, and that the following variances be granted: <br />1. The motion was <br />seconded by N. Sergi and unanimously approved. Variances Granted. <br />IV. COMMLJNICATIONS: <br />Discuss memo from Councilman G. Nashar regarding the number of sign variance requests <br />Chairman Maloney said Mr. Nashar has written a letter because of his concern over the amount of <br />signage variances requested in the City of North Olmsted. He said back on April 23, 2001, Mayor <br />Musial had a dinner meeting with the various Commission chairmen. Mr. Maloney said that at that <br />time he submitted an idea for sign or property modifications. He then reviewed his note which read, <br />"For any sign or property modifications the submittal of the Building Department should have a letter <br />of authorization from the landlord. We have experienced requests for signage variances in the city <br />from businesses and the landlord is not aware of the request. Before any consideration before Planning <br />or other Commission, there should be an affidavit from the landlord." He said our Commissions <br />4
