The meeting was October 1"at 9:00am in the Caucus Room at City Hall
Attending were Mayor Musial, Director of Finance Copfer, Safety Director
Jesse, City Engineer Durbin, Building Commissioner Conway, Assistant. _
Building Commissioner Rymarczyk, Hunan Resources Director Copeland
and myself as a Land Marks representa.tive and Chairman of tl,e Community
Development Block Grant, Citizen Advisory Committee. Our guest was
Cuyahoga County, Housing Division Manager Mr. Pau1 Herdeg.
The CDBG CAC has suggested to City Council and the Administration to
apply for $75,000.00 for an Exterior Ma.intenance Program. Seventeen out of
Forty Seven communities in the County apply for this money.
The Exterior Maintenance Program is an opportunity for seniors and
residents to apply for grants to help fix up their homes. The City has done an
extensive survey of the housing stock in 1Vorth Olmsted and has targeted
approx. 250 homes that could use some form of Exterior Maintenance. The
repairs include roofs, gutters and pa.int.
The feeling is that some of the Homeowners may be on a fixed or limited
income status and may qua.lify for these grants through the County.
If successful in the application, the City would help arrange through
screening of individual residents, grants for said repairs. Repairs would be
completed and the City would pay the contractors and then be reimbursed
from the County.
If individuals do not qualify through this program, other programs are
ava.ilable through the County, such as moderate to low interest loans
depending on income,
The CDBG CAC feels this is a good program and is happy to see the City of
North Olmsted attempt to get this grant.
The feeling is that when one house on a street "spruces up" it sparks other
Homeowmers to do the same and revitalizes the whole neighborhood.
