impact resistance greater than other products. Mrs. Lord asked if there a product that does not have a
fake wood texture. She referred to page 3 of the brie£ Mr. Tobin said with most of the textured
finishes, he cannot really discern that there is a wood grain. They reviewed some samples. Mr. Barker
asked if there is a smoother finish available. Mr. Tobin mentioned there is a pebble finish. They
discussed possible colors to be used. Mr. Tobin passed around a sample of the colors that are available.
He said some would show graining more than others would. Mrs. Lord asked if they can come up with
something that is very mildly wood grain or not at all. Mr. Tobin said he can call the company
tomorrow to see if they have another texture. One thing that is important is the quality of the siding; the
thickness, strength and impact resistance. There was further discussion about the profile of the house,
the dimensions, and trying to keep it the way it is now. Mr. Corell brought up uniformity. Mrs. Lord
asked if Mr. Tobin can go with different sizes. She asked if he is committed to doing the same width.
She agreed that uniformity would bring it up to date, to 2003, but part of the charm of the house is that it
is not 2003 and never will be. She said some of the inconsistency is the beauty of it. W. Tobin said
there are four different widths and there was discussion about what size to use. Mr. Barker asked Mr.
Pohlid if he can replace the garage with new wood when it is redone. Mr. Pohlid indicated he can do
that. Mrs. Lord said there are wood shutters on some of the windows and the board would like those to
remain as currently located. It may mean more painting but it brings back some of the character of the
house. Mr. Pohlid said the shutters are rather beat up and he would like them to be replaced. Mr. Tobin
said there are several specialty companies that can make perfect looking shutters that will replicate any
contour, design, etc. Mr. Barker mentioned the fiberglass shutters that he has. He said no one is able to
tell the material of the shutters from the street. He would ask that if Mr. Pohlid is to replace the shutters
and keep them where they are located now, that he be able to choose whatever product he would like as
long as it looks the same. Mrs. Lord said they discussed the porch ceiling last time. W. Pohlid said he
is not planning to do anything with it. He said it would just be easier to paint rather than adapt
something to it. Mrs. Lord asked if he will change the porch railing. Mr. Pohlid said it would be easy
to repair and they can maintain the style. Mr. Tobin mentioned the spindles would be available if they
need replacing. Mrs. Lord said they talked about a plaque at the last meeting and she reminded
everyone the plaque would remain the property of the city. The stipulation is that it must be visible
from the street. Mr. Tobin said he would like to accentuate the plaque by cutting out an exact frame of
wood and then put it behind the plaque. Mr. Dubowski asked about the gutters being replaced. Mr.
Tobin said they are replacing what is there. There was further discussion about the gutters. Mr. Tobin
indicated he will confer with the Building Department on it.
The primary goal of the North Olmsted Landmarks Commission is to preserve, protect, and perpetuate
the history of North Olmsted and the integrity of buildings in the Historic District.
