Schumann
Mr. Barker mentioned that Mr. Schumann contacted him last week at work to ask how things were
going. Mr. Barker added he was uncertain how Mr. Schumann got his work number. Mr. Barker told
him the resume was handed in to the Mayor and it is up to the 1Vlayor and Law Director to deterinine
whether he qualifies. Mr. Barker then discussed a phone call he had with a resident, Mr. Bachouros,
who is concerned about a neighbor's fence. Mr. Lang then updated the members on the fence, which is
the minor change issue that recently came through to the Commission.
Memo re a?ding 2003 budget
Mr. Lang pointed out the requested budget for Landinarks was for $920. The approved budget is $500.
He said out of that $500, they are responsible for paying dues in the amounts of: $30 for OAHSM, the
National Trust is $99, the Cleveland Restoration Society appears to be $50, and the National Alliance of
Preservation Commissions is $50. He asked for any further discussion on the memberships. Mrs.
VanAuken questioned why they would consider renewal of the memberships. Mr. Barker said that
Landmarks has been involved with these groups for some time and gains valuable information.
P. Barker made a motion to approve renewal of the memberships for the OAHSM, The National Trust,
the Cleveland Restoration Society, and the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions. The motion
was seconded by M. Davis and unanimously approved.
Memo re ag; rding new resident packets and formation of Landmarks Commission
Mrs. VanAuken mentioned the error in the document that goes out to new residents. The word
perpetrating should be changed to perpetuating. Mr. Lang pointed out there was a question raised last
month about the date Landmarks was created. He indicated he will check on the date and report back.
He asked Mrs. VanAuken if she still has the book on North Olmsted history, from Michael Ball. Mrs.
VanAuken replied she does not believe she has it. It was passed around and Mrs. O'Rourke may be the
person that has the book. Mr. Lang said he received a letter from Mrs. O'Rourke indicating she will
have to resign from the Landmarks Commission. He said she will be moving from North Olmsted. The
vacancy will have to be filled by the Planning Commission, as Mrs. O'Rourke is its representative. Mrs.
VanAuken pointed out that Mrs. O'Rourke has given a great deal of service to the city with being on
two commissions. Mr. Lang said she will sorely be missed. He then indicated he sent a memo to Mr.
Miller to inquire of the Service Director as to the location of the foundation stones from the Dunfee
house, which were removed upon demolition of the home. They were supposed to be secured so they
could be used at a future time in the park. He said in driving by the site, he keeps wondering where they
are, so he sent a memo inquiring about it so they don't loose track of the stones. Mr. Dubowski said he
believes the stone is at the east end of the parking lot at Springvale.
VI. COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Mr. Lang reported there was a work session on March 22°d. Mr. Dubowski, Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Lord and
Mr. Lang were present. They completed the transfer of materials from one drawer to another and in the
process they threw away duplicate copies. The next task will be to go through each one of the file
folders that is in the drawer. He cannot be at any further work sessions until 7une. He will not be
available for the May meeting. The board members agreed to arrange a work session at another time.
VI.
