necessarily need to be matching funds in order to be eligible for them. They could get funding from the
Ohio Historical Society as a CLG to conduct an inventory to do some of the things that they are finding a
real hard time paying for. Mrs. Lord said much of what they did with the survey came out of that first
and that's where the funding was seed money to do that. When you go on in that paragraph, obviously
we could work toward National Register districts again, or properties, but there is also money there to
preserve and rehabilitate historic properties. There isn't a lot of money, and not enough to save the
Barton Road Church but there is some available. Mrs. VanAuken asked if anyone knows the present
ownership of the church. Mrs. Davis asked for the date on the deed. Mrs. O'Rourke said it is 1826. Mrs.
Davis said she ran a search using the address, which is 30450 Lorain Rd., and it says it was purchased by
Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church, whose billing address is on West 56tl' Street. They paid $525,000
for it. She said she saw information that indicated the church was built in 1927, but that was the addition.
Mr. Corell said the addition on the back was built about 1927, and it's behind the chapel. Mrs. O'Rourke
said that 7anet Saringer helped her chase the deed down and it went back as far as 1826, as far as they
could tell. Mrs. Saringer gave her the blackened copy of all that information which went to a S.I.T.E.S
student, the one that went overseas and they have not seen it since. Mr. Barker thanked Mrs. Lord for all
the information she provided. Mrs. O'Rourke said she was at Old Town Hall last Saturday, with the
donuts, in the rain and snow. She was able to get in because there was a soccer coaches clinic going on.
She just wanted to report she came up for a work day but she left because of the other activities going on.
Mrs. Lord said they need to talk about the work party that was scheduled for this coming Saturday and
they need to determine if anyone can make it. She will most likely not be able to make it. Mr. Lang said
he knows he will not be available. He pointed out it is a long holiday weekend. Mrs. Lord suggested
setting up another work party date, especially if the members will need access to the files. She mentioned
February 22nd. MTS. O'Rourke and Mrs. Davis said they could put it down on their calendars. It was
decided they would meet at 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Mr. Lang said he can give someone the hall key at
the end of the meeting, as he will most likely not attend. Mrs. Lord said maybe they will divide it up and
give files to the board members. She pointed out they are responsible for bringing them back. Mr. Lang
asked if she is referring to the address files for the homes on Butternut that are going to be visited. Mrs.
Lord reminded the members that it may not be a visit. They will be determining whether or not they have
enough information to write something about the home for the updating of the self-guided tour. N1r.
Barker suggested that they come up with a list of questions to be answered. Mrs. O'Rourke said they
could get the information out of the folder or they would have to speak with the resident. Mr. Barker said
that needs to be based on the questions that need to be asked. Mrs. Lord said they may then need to go
deeper. If the homeowner knows nothing, inaybe there is an older resident that lives nearby, and that is
where Mr. Corell and Mrs. Davis who have lived on the street for a while inay be able to help us. She
said in the past they have used any resource they have available to get interesting stuff about the houses.
She said they need to make it fun, inake it tell a story. She said if you reinember back to the self-guided
tour, one spot was called North Olmsted's loveliest barn. It is the house across from the cemetery. The
house burned, the people moved into the barn out of necessity and eventually, it was converted to a
house.
VI. OLD BUSINESS:
Coinmission needs to submit information to the Office of Commissions for inclusion in packets to new
residents (need asap)
VII. AD70URN1VIENT: G. Corell made a motion to adjourn. The motion was seconded by P. Barker and
unanimously approved. Mr. Lang adjourned the meeting at 8:30 p.m.
.3-/O -
7oe Lang, Chairman Date Annie Kilbane, Assistant Clerk of Commissions
8
