' and cannot do as a businessman within the city while on the Planning Commission. Mrs. Hoff-Smith
and Mr. Lasko indicated they did not receive a copy of the ordinance. Nlrs. Hoff-Smith said she
would also like a copy of Ms. Wenger's coinments on the ordinance. Mrs. Kilbane indicated she will
make sure everyone gets a copy. Mr. Durbin mentioned he had the privilege of interviewing Ms.
Wenger and was very iinpressed. He said she has worked with many public entities. He also
commented that he hears a lot about other communities, such as Westlake, but it is time they come up
with something that says, "North Olmsted." He said perhaps Ms. Wenger will be the one to
determine what goes to the Architectural Review Board, the Landmarks Commission, etc. It will
streamline the process. Mr. O'Malley brought up it was an error to say the board cannot address the
issue of proposals going to the Architectural Review Board first. It is part of this chapter of the code
but it is not the focus of this piece of legislation. However, there is nothing to stop the Planning
Commission froin coining up with recommendations for changes and submitting them to Council for
its consideration. He said as Mr. Durbin has pointed out, Council might want to empower the
Planning Director to pick and clioose which projects would go to the Architectural Review Board as
opposed to the current system. The Planning Corrunission could back up the Architectural Review
Board's recommendations, but maybe not everything needs to go to the Architectural Review Board.
The board meinbers agreed to review the ordinance further and discuss it at the next meeting. Mr.
Yager mentioned that the Kent State Urban Design Center is doing a master plan for the City of Bay
Village. It is a very capable organization and it may be something the board would want to look into.
He would recommend it be something the board considers.
VI.
