.._ .' J
Mr. Matt Dunlap of 26550 Butternut Ricl2e Road:
Request for certificate of appropriateness to replace current wood siding with vinyl siding.
Mr. Lang reviewed the commission's requests for more research and questioned if everyone
received a copy of Mr. Schumann's letter to the applicant. Mr. Dunlap reviewed that he met
with Mr. Schumann who indicated that he did not feel there was sufficient damage to the wood
siding to warrant replacing it. He indicated that the home was purchased to use as a rental
property and he wants to place vinyl siding on the home to limit the amount of maintenance.
The wood siding will be removed and insulation will be installed at that time. Mr. Schumann
thought that the downstairs windows had been altered and trimmed out again. He believes that
within the last ten years the window trim was wrapped in aluminum. Mr. Dunlap voiced that he
would not be altering the current windows. Mr. Rerko questioned what the applicant was going
to do to structurally support the homes when he removes the wood siding. During the time period
when the applicants home was built the wood siding was used as the support for a load bearing
wall. He also suggested that vinyl siding is not maintenance free no matter what the applicant
had been told. The board asked if the applicant would consider placing the vinyl siding over the
wood siding instead of removing the wood siding. The applicant stated that he wanted the wood
siding removed and did not wish to place the siding over the wood. The board tried to urge the
applicant to keep the wood siding on the home so that in the future an owner could restore the
home. The board voiced that they would be willing to grant the siding if the owner kept the
wood siding but Mr. Dunlap stated that he was not keeping the wood siding. The commission
suggested the applicant vinyl side the garage and think about pail-hg the home. The Commission
questioned if the applicant was aware that the home was in the historical district. Mr. Dunlap
stated that he knew the home was in the historical district but not aware that he had to go through
the Landmark Commission to do anything on his home. The Commission advised Mr. Dunlap
that by removing the wood siding on a historical home devalued the home significantly.
"Due to a technical problem this section of the minutes is from the Chairman's notes"
B.
