Mr. Morgan stated that new recreation facilities have attractions to boost attendance. Features
that include water slides, water playgrounds, zero depth pools, exercise rooms, gyms and
jogging tracks are unquestionably the trends of the future.

Other cities are improving their recreational facilities as well. Middleburg Heights will open a
new indoor pool and fitness center in April of 2000. Rocky River will be adding a gym and
fitness center. Bay Village and Avon Lake are currently exploring a rec center for their
communities.

The cities of Mentor and Cleveland Heights have added a second ice rink to meet increased
demands from their communities.

The City of Elyria spent $498,000 from the city general fund on their ice arena to replace a
cement floor and dasher boards with plexiglass.

We have to bring the crowds back into the pool. The Day Care Centers come and swim for a
few hours, then they take them away. The neighborhood pools bring in their neighbors. We
need to get a zero depth pool, water slides, attracting moms with children and water slides (etc.)
attracting the teenagers. Our baby pool is antiquated and too small. We need current trends to
bring the public to the municipal pools.

Mr. Morgan stated that for a fitness center and gymnasium we would have to go back to the
community.

Sub Committee Report:

None.

Old Business
None.

New Business

None.

Meeting Adjourned:
There was no motion to adjourn.

Tim Smith, Vice Chairman Jackie Ryan
For Claire Hayes, Chairman

Please note the minutes of the Recreation Commission are not official until they are approved and signed
by the Recreation Commission.
