on the back burner, and the bleachers for the pool area were lost after the budget cuts. The cost
was $32,565 to replace them as part of the capital improvements for 2002; there is now a zero
chance of the bleachers going in. The renovation for the Hockey Club is ready to go, but Betsy
indicated that a member of the Hockey Club stated they were leaning toward dividing the ice rink
by portable, removable poles.

NEW BUSINESS

Mr. Gareau would like to change the date of the Commission Meeting. There was general
discussion among the members as to individual preference, Monday being best. A Motion was
made by Randi Jones, seconded by Bill Kelley, to conduct the Recreation Committee Meeting on
st
the 1 Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m., roll call taken, and motion passed. The next meeting
of the North Olmsted Recreation Commission will take place on Monday, November 4, 2002.
Claire stated that this issue would be re-opened at the first meeting attended by the new
Recreation Commissioner and Safety Director.

Anna Kanis asked if any member had knowledge of the job duties/description of Recreation
Department employees in other communities. Betsy Drenski stated that Ohio Parks and
Recreation has solid information on this subject on its Web site. She further noted that within the
past years the Program Supervisors have elicited extensive information on the description, duties
and wages (very low compared to other places of employment) of part-time employees. Mr.
Brooks asked the number of employees at the Recreation Center. There are approximately 15 full
time and 140 part-time employees at this time, depending on the season.

Claire Hayes asked if the We Care Program applies to the part-time employees as well. Betsy
replied it did, and that it was offered as a perk to attract part-time employees, especially given the
low salaries offered. What needs clarification is who is considered a family member, what
classification of employee (part-time, seasonal) qualifies, and what percentage discount should be
offered. The general consensus is that, because of the valued part-time employee, a discount
should be offered to family members, but free admission should be banned.

MOTION TO ADJOURN
A motion was made by Bill, with a second by Lisa. Roll-call taken. All were in favor; motion
passed.

Meeting adjourned at ~9:00 p.m. (not stated on taped minutes)
Page 4
