Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
December 3, 2007

Probably with the exception of play equipment, as far as cap improvement money, the Commissioner
did not think that there would be that much appropriated to the Rec Department. It will all be for
improving or replacing old or worn out operational things. Mr. DiSalvo said that in January he will
present the list. It’s not going to be that exciting; just every-day, ordinary operating equipment.

Mr. Lasko said that, once, again, the Commission discussed it last month, and if Mr. Dailey were here
tonight it would be an item of discussion for him, but have we made any progress as far as the outdoor
pool filter, or is it just going to be a line item in the budget that we have to wait and see. Last month,
the concern was that it was something that was really going to have to be dealt with immediately, if in
fact the pool was going to be opened. Mr. DiSalvo said this was right. The latest he heard was that
Council was in full support; the Rec Department will go ahead and move forward and count it as an
expense line item in our budget. Part Two of this matter, and it still has not been answered, is that Mr.
DiSalvo hopes that this is a single, proprietary contractor and we don’t have to go to bid for the pool
filter. Mr. DiSalvo said this has been referred to the Law Department, but that no opinion has been in
the offing. If we have to go to bid for this, it will be pushed back even more. Even if it goes to bid, it
still has to go through the single-source provider company.

Mr. Lasko said that this is another item for specific notation in the minutes to be addressed by the
Community Life Services Director at the meeting in January.

Mr. Groden asked the timeframe to begin the outdoor pool filter for it to be up and running in time.
Mr. DiSalvo said that the order has to be placed the first of the year because it’s fabricated. It’s not
off the shelf. It must be ordered with an eight to twelve week turnaround time because they have to
order materials. Taking that into consideration, they also have other pools they must do this for as
well. The longer we wait, the longer our project is going to be pushed back, which will delay our
opening on time. That’s why this is important. The nice thing about this company is that it’s local: it
is right off Brookpark Road. Mr. Groden asked when the outdoor pool opens. Mr. DiSalvo said it is
Memorial Day Weekend. Also, in addition to providing lessons and open swim, the pool is essential
for day camp: not only ours, but we have three or four other groups that use that as well.

This concluded the report of the Recreation Commissioner.

REPORT OF THE COMMUNITY LIFE SERVICES DIRECTOR

Mr. Lasko asked Mr. DiSalvo if he would run through the items on the Agenda for the Community
Life Services Director.

New Recreation Commission Member

The new Recreation Commission member will be Julie Nader, sworn in before the January 2008
meeting. She’s been a guest here a few times.
Page 6
