Recreation Commission Meeting
December 6, 2004

concluded by repeating that the schools and city must be on the same page to get things to
happen.

Brad Friedel - Soccer

Ms. Jones read in the paper about the soccer fields where Brad Friedel is now going to Bay
Village. Mr. DiSalvo said that, in actuality, he is proposing that to Bay. The Chamber of
Commerce President is a friend of Don Copeland (Human Resources Director). He received a
complaint from the Radisson that the City of North Olmsted dropped the ball in installing the
water line and that will prevent Brad from coming back to the City; that the Radisson will lose
$50,000 to $60,000. The Commissioner said that that article is not true; that's not what
happened, and he has documentation to prove so, gave a report and met with everyone involved.
The fact is that Mr. Friedel does not seem to be able to commit to a City (and he won't). He's
going to get the best deal possible; in the past three years he will have his camps at three different
places, and now Bay Village is wondering if they should do it. Ms. Kanis said that the NOSO
newsletter said that Brad would be coming back to North Olmsted. The Radisson thought it
would still have the business; however, now Brad's thinking about going to the Holiday Inn in
Westlake, closer to Bay Village.

NEW BUSINESS

School Levy

Another thing Ms. Jones read about was that, with the levy for the schools, they would be
building a baseball diamond and football fields. Mr. Kelley said they are putting in two new
roads; they are buying a couple of houses on Canterbury, put an entrance to the school on
Canterbury and another between the houses, to be the service road.

Mr. DiSalvo pointed out that the schools are getting a lot of things, but a lot of the expense is
payroll. If the schools have their own facilities, that will be great.

Ice Fees

Ms. Jones asked about ice fees for different Rec Centers. Mr. DiSalvo said that Betsy (Drenski)
would know that; and the Commissioners can get the information to Ms. Jones as comparison.
Mr. DiSalvo and Ms. Drenski both said that the rates have not gone up for years. Mr. Kelley said
that he discussed with a gentleman this past week (who has a son in hockey), and discovered that
the North Olmsted Rec Center is well below other facilities. $150.00 is what the fee is for Pee-
Wee; the other facilities are charging $300.00 to $1,000. Mr. Jones then asked Ms. Drenski to
get the fees depending on the ice time charged, that being the difference; Ms. Drenski said she
would get the figures to her for the next Commission meeting.

Page 7
