Minutes of a Meeting of
The North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
August 1, 2005

overlapping conversation). The former scout leader continued, “Again, why can’t that be set up
on the outfield inside the ball field. We give up the use of the field when they’re playing when All
Scouts is up there.” Mr. Miller said, “We’re talking about a weekend.” The former scout leader
replied that he knew there was a cost involved with taking it down and if it goes into the soccer
weekend, again, can you reconfigure how the soccer fields are set up? Mr. Miller said that would
be worth looking into. Mr. DiSalvo said that there is no way you can reconfigure the soccer field
on Field No. 1; that’s tough. Mr. Miller said that maybe the All Scouts Weekend layout could be
reconfigured. Mr. DiSalvo said that shouldn’t be an issue. Mr. Miller said that he doesn’t know
the details of the fence as far as price, but what are we talking about in manpower to take it down,
move it, store it and bring it back. Are we talking about 20 people or is this a six-man job? Is it
two vehicles….the Athletic Department responded that they don’t think it’s of any concern to the
City of North Olmsted at this time in terms of the fact that they said they would do it. Mr. Miller
said that it’s the City’s concern to try to make it work and asked what it would take to do all of
this. The Athletic Department assured Mr. Miller that if they were going to do it, they would get
it done.

Mr. Miller said that, and maybe he got his notes wrong, was that the first thing the Athletic
Department said was that it was going to be stored at the High School. Then, when Duane
(Limpert) asked, the Athletic Department said that the City was going to store it. You’ve said
that you would take care of the majority of taking it down and you would appreciate any help you
can get. Now you’re saying, we’re going to do it; what’s your concern?

(Short, overlapping conversation.) Mr. Carras said that he was here before us to give the
community a ball field that it never had. They are very, very frustrated at the High School
because they do not have a ball field for its varsity team. Last year they did not have a ball field
and were told they were going to have one for their J.V. team. That causes a lot of problems
when he (Mr. Carras) spent all this time scheduling and then a week before the season starts, he
sees that there is not a ball field that we said we were going to have. Now, he has to go and eat a
little crow but, fortunately, because he has a good cooperative effort within our conference, will
reschedule going away. Mr. Carras said he is trying to, not only for the High School, but for the
City, give us a ball diamond here. They’re going to pay for it, they’re going to give the City the
manpower, they’re going to take it down. He’s just asking for an O.K. to give the City a ball
diamond which we’ve never had. They’re taking it all on. He doesn’t know what all else they can
do. They’re going to store it; they’re going to buy it; they’re going to…where are the hang-ups?

The only issue, Mr. Miller said that he is hearing so far, is potential conflicts of other events. The
City is not saying it doesn’t like a fence in that Park or no, you can’t have it. It’s what the
conflicts are as we serve all the different residents that need to use it, and can it be done? And,
can the conflicts be solved?

The Athletic Department replied that the only conflicts they have had to deal with in the past have
been All Scouts and NOSO. Those are the only two things (that conflict) in that corner of
Page 6
