Minutes of a Meeting of
The North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
August 1, 2005

next year we have to travel all the way out to Brecksville/Broadview Heights twice because we
don’t have a home field; Middleburg Heights twice because we don’t have a home field. That’s
not fair to us, and that’s not fair to our boys.” Mr. Limpert: “Right. And it’s not really a City
situation; it is the school, and we’re working very closely with them to try to resolve it because on
the higher levels we’re working very closely to try to do what we can to make it better for
everybody and not practice the politics of the business.” Another person said, “Don’t mention
that. Talk about community. Don’t mention school and city as two separate entities.” Mr.
Limpert: “Well, that’s why we’re trying to work with them on this.”

Mr. DiSalvo said, “O.K. I’ve got a question over here.” Another gentleman said that he thinks
it’s obvious that the high school baseball community would like to have a home field. He thought
about the City’s concerns about looking into the future and not putting a patch on it saying, O.K.,
it’s temporary, and five years down the line saying no, we’d rather have permanent. He wondered
what would be wrong about putting in a temporary fence now and looking at the two conflicts
that we have with the Cub Scouts and NOSO – maybe asking NOSO if they can move and find
two other fields, and if they can’t, then pull up the fence for that weekend or however long it
needs to be, and that would be the formula for one time, and also getting it down for the off-
season; then, down the line, if we can work everything out, make it permanent.

Someone said he thought there was an error there – that there is only one NOSO field interfering
with the plan – and that’s only in use for one tournament.

It seemed, in Mr. Carras’s opinion, that it would be rather crazy to take a fence down for a
weekend and insert it back up when we could ask NOSO if they could just find another field. He
knows the man that runs the tournament and he would be more than happy to ask him that. Mr.
DiSalvo agreed. Mr. Carras continued by saying it’s a year ahead of time – that means that of the
tournament is not 128 teams, that it’s 120 instead, he thought it would still be O.K. He said that
he feels the people’s frustration here, and he thinks that we can come to some closure on it. The
Athletic Department wants to go forward. His proposal was good for 30 days. He did not want
to go into the school year and get another estimate and meet for another Commission meeting. If
that’s what he has to do, he will. He just did not see where the hang-up is.

Chris Carl said that the Hot Stove Board would agree to participate if the High School issue can
be resolved. He was not sure if the Board will donate money if the High School can’t use it, but
we (Hot Stove) can live without it as long as the High School can resolve it. All the Hot Stove
kids are going to be playing up there eventually. They’re all working for that.

Mr. Carras said that he concurred with what the gentlemen were saying. He would like to see the
fence used. He hates to have NOSO dictate what’s best for a major portion of the City of North
Olmsted. They have a pretty good situation. He’s all for it, but taking a fence down and denying
all these kids throughout the summer for their one weekend tournament when you’ve got to deny
these kids for two months, how fair is that to the citizens?
Page 9
