Recreation Commission Meeting <br />December 6, 2004 <br /> <br /> <br />Play Equipment <br /> <br />The Commissioner passed pictures of the before and after play equipment at North Olmsted Park <br />among the Members of the Commission. <br /> <br />In addition to installing the new equipment, the safety zone was done as well, consisting of thick, <br />spongy mulch. The equipment was installed within two days; the crew did a fine job of it. <br /> <br />The Members commented on how nice the equipment looked. Mr. DiSalvo said that the small <br />"steam shovel" is in the center of the equipment will be expanded upon for the two-to-five-year- <br />old children. The only thing done completely was the equipment for the five-to-twelve-year-olds. <br /> <br />Ms. Jones asked what happened to the old equipment; Mr. DiSalvo replied that it was scrapped. <br /> <br />Basketball Court <br /> <br />Ms. Jones asked about the condition of the basketball courts, saying how beautiful they looked <br />when she saw them. Mr. DiSalvo replied that there has been no report of vandalism. Mr. Miller <br />noted that a mother pulled her vehicle on the newly seeded grass of the Courts and was seen <br />putting her children's bicycles in the trunk. When questioned, she responded that she didn't know <br />she shouldn't do that; she was not from around the area. Mr. DiSalvo said that the damage <br />consisted of mud tracks from the tires, and there was no further damage done. Mr. Miller asked <br />the Commissioner if he wanted to consider a snow fence around the area; not on the South Side; <br />Ms. Drenski said that there is a fence on the East Side, apparently where the lady pulled up her <br />car. There is now a snow fence along the drive that runs along the side of the basketball courts. <br />There will be a permanent, chain-link fence installed there in the spring. <br /> <br />Boy Scout Project for Trees <br /> <br />The tree labeling by the Boy Scouts will be done in the spring of 2005 because the weather <br />stopped it for the remainder of 2004. <br /> <br />Sand Box Area <br /> <br />Mr. Baxter said there is an area that looks like it contained a sandbox that's become unsightly. It <br />could look nicer. Mr. Baxter continued by saying that if someone invested a small amount of <br />money into shrubbery it would look much better. Mr. DiSalvo replied that the area will be taken <br />care of in 2005 with the materials left over from 2004, and that new benches will be bought as <br />well. The Maintenance Department has received many compliments on their work, providing <br />momentum to continue to do so. <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />
