Recreation Commission Meeting
December 6, 2004

Center. Mr. DiSalvo said that there would be a minimum monthly checklist: good, bad or
indifferent, meeting with management of Jani-King. The Commissioner continued that he has
asked the program supervisors to keep track in their areas and report back to him with any
problem as soon as possible rather than handle complaints from the patrons. Ms. Jones asked the
total cost for the year 2005. Mr. DiSalvo said it would be about $45,000.

Mayor Musial has indicated that at least 75% of cities have in-house cleaning services; however,
at the North Olmsted Rec Center it would be too expensive to pay the maintenance crew's wages.

Planters

Mr. DiSalvo said that skateboard speed bumps were installed on the planters; the project is
complete. Ms. Jones asked what comprised the speed bumps. The Commissioner said that the
crew sawed an inch off bricks and glued them on about three feet apart.

Ms. Jones commented on the Vietnam Memorial in Medina, waxed and soaped to use for
skateboarding. The Commissioner told her that there are speed bump "knobs" specifically made
for that purpose. He will provide Ms. Jones with the proper catalog for her use; there might even
be a color match for the Memorial.

Clague Park Walk Path Status

Due to the weather conditions, United Paving will probably not complete the Clague Park Walk
Path until next spring. They will abide by the price given to the Recreation Department by
contract.

Pro Shop

There is a Pro Shop issue to be addressed by the Commissioner, and there will be a full report
given to the Commission at the January 2005 meeting. The decision will come to whether pro
shop operations will be continued or not. At the present time, the Pro Shop supervisor does not
feel keeping it open is worth the cost; in looking at expenses, it's been a losing proposition. To
man the shop is a huge expense, and it does not get the business it previously did: it gets
absolutely no figure skating business, that going to private enterprise in the area. The Hockey
Club and the schools are using different sources as well as the Pro Shop for team sales.
However, Mr. DiSalvo reported to the Commission that Mr. Jesse feels it's part of the Rec
Department's business to provide this service.

This concluded the report of the Recreation Commissioner.

REPORT OF THE SAFETY DIRECTOR

None.
Page 4
