Recreation Commission Meeting
December 6, 2004

Student Painting

Ms. Jones then asked about the Eagle that used to be above the bench. She had an idea from the
newspaper that the students from the high school painted pictures (for donations) on walls. For
example, the students went to one of the area banks and painted a beautiful scene there. Ms.
Jones thought the high school students could do this at the Rec Center. The figure skating wall
might be a place for one of the pictures to be painted - the wall from the administration wing
through the small ice rink (the concession wall). There used to be figure skaters on the wall by
the bleachers. Ms. Drenski said there are two big boards there now; but there could be something
painted between them. Ms. Jones thought after January 1, 2005, the students could paint. Ms.
Drenski said this would be fine.

Concession

Ms. Jones also said that the concession stand doesn't stay open long enough in between periods of
a game. Mr. DiSalvo asked if this would be during the day or at night. Ms. Jones said at night;
Ms. Drenski said that concession is closed around 9:00. The supervisors are told not to have two
employees working when there hasn't been anything sold for a while; however, this matter is left
to supervisor discretion. Ms. Jones said that the game started at 8:00 and, twenty minutes later,
the parents want to come and spend money, and concession isn't open. Also, when the kids are
done skating, they want food, and there is money to be made from two teams. Mr. Miller asked:
"On a day-to-day basis, who authorizes them to shut down?" Ms. Drenski said it would be either
Debbie, the concession manager, or the supervisor on duty (an adult in charge of closing up the
building). They should be responsible enough to make that decision, and Mr. DiSalvo and Ms.
Drenski both said they would work on this matter.

Newsletter

Ms. Jones and other members of the Commission then said that the newsletter replacing the
brochure was very impressive. Mr. DiSalvo thanked her for her comment and noted that the Rec
is spending the same money as the brochure, but it will come out three times a year rather than
two. Ms. Drenski said the next one will be April 1, 2005 and then August.

Skate Rental

Ms. Drenski said that skate rental has picked up year to date - starting a week later in 2004
because of scheduling, and there is more money being brought in than last year.

Tennis Courts

Mr. Miller asked Mr. DiSalvo about the plans for the tennis courts, who replied that there is land,
but a site must be established. Mr. Miller said that (from what the tennis people told him), there
Page 8
