Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
May 1, 2006
Page Two

The Assistant Commissioner noted that the Enrichment Program is doing well. There will be two five-
week sessions during the summer, so the sessions will cover almost the entire summer season. There
has been positive response to these sessions. Mr. Baxter asked if the sessions are charged by a weekly
rate; Ms. Drenski replied that it is a daily rate. Mr. Baxter asked what is meant by “enrichment.” Ms.
Drenski said that the summer camp is included in that program; Jeni Couts just started a “Young
Rembrandts” drawing class and is hoping to have a cooking class. The cartoon class and magic class
are also included in the creative enrichment program.

Mr. Terbrack asked if the year-to-date (figure) is cumulative for the four months, e.g., under
Enrichment, it does not seem to add up. Ms. Drenski noted that that doesn’t look right. Mr. Lasko
said it seems as if the April numbers are not included; that the formula only goes through March. Ms.
Drenski apologized.

Mr. Barker noted that under Game and Vending there seems to be a drop from February to March and
asked why. Ms. Drenski said no, that the game person has other places in the area to tend to and,
perhaps that was part of it. Ms. Kanis said that, because hockey was down as well, the kids or family
members wouldn’t be playing the machines.

Mr. Lasko noted that the pool was $12,000+ a year ago and was down to $5,000+ this year. Ms.
Drenski reported that the pool program supervisor is working to restructure the length and timing of
the lessons. There was a spring quickie session that didn’t quite fit into the curriculum; that registered
in April. Shortened programs also made a big impact in that timing. The Rec Department will wait to
see if the restructuring will make it up in the future, but Ms. Drenski believes that is why those figures
went down that much.

Ms. Drenski said that she will have Linda (Andrews) correct the report and send it with the minutes to
all members.

Mr. Terbrack said that the legislation is before Council to revise at least the pool range rates. Mr.
Barker said he knows it’s been asked for suspension, but he could not guarantee it. The information
has been sent to all the Rec Committee members, so perhaps it might be able to be pushed through;
however, Mr. Barker had a feeling the matter would be pushed back.

Hot Stove Letter

Ms. Drenski reported to the Commission members that Mr. DiSalvo wanted her to review the Hot
Stove request regarding the fence at the Park dated April 11, 2006 (copy attached). Their request is
that the fencing remain installed until the conclusion of the baseball season, which is July 31, 2006.
Note the attachment of page four of the Parks and Recreation Commission meeting of April 3, 2006
stating that the fence will be coming down. Mr. Terbrack said that he did receive a few complaints
Page 2
