Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
January 14, 2008

The Rec Department is in need of a new dump truck. The dump truck is used for all field prep during
the summer, transportation of trailers, plowing and salting, etc. We may have a back up from Service.
Again, nothing is written in stone or clear yet. Mr. Dailey said that there is nothing available to the
Rec Department as a hand-me-down. Duane (Limpert’s) recommendation to the Rec is that we buy a
chassis for about $20,000. They can put the old body on a new chassis. The truck they work with is a
’92. Service can no longer find parts for it.

Mr. DiSalvo talked about play equipment at Barton/Bradley Park. Right now the equipment is about
25 years old. Mr. Dailey said there was a crack down the middle of the slide. A child could go down
that slide and rip his/her leg right open. The metal grating, like a platform, had rusted out as well. We
made the decision to take it out because there was no safe way to secure it or make any improvements
to it. We are hoping to get some new equipment this year.

Mr. DiSalvo said that the Parks ball field bleachers are desperately needed. Bleachers are meant to be
permanent. These bleachers have been moved around so much they have lost their integrity. If we
ever do get bleachers, they are going to be on a cement pad and bolted down; they will be permanent,
not temporary.

Mr. DiSalvo passed around pictures of wrought iron fencing, which is much more attractive and
aesthetically pleasing than the mesh fence there. The taller one would go around the basketball courts.
The shorter one would go around the horseshoe pits. The fencing gets beaten up – especially on the
basketball courts. Unless there are bars spaced out about every foot and a half, the mesh is going to
get bent. The basketball courts have huge dents in them.

The Pavilion park shelter at North Olmsted Park would be about a 20’ x 28’ metal shelter.

This concluded the report of the Recreation Commissioner.

Mr. Groden asked if there were any questions. There being none, he handed the floor over to the
Director of Community Life Services, John Dailey.

REPORT OF THE COMMUNITY LIFE SERVICES DIRECTOR

Status of the Adoption of the Rec Master Plan (12/3/07 Meeting)

Mr. Dailey reported that Kim Wenger and himself, along with Finance Director Copfer, will meet with
rdth
representatives of Fairview Hospital and Cleveland Clinic on the 23 or 24 of this month to see if
there would be a participation interest with them. They have had agreements with Rocky River and
Fairview Park, where they might be running some physical therapy sessions out of their Centers or
actually using office space. Unfortunately, I would be pleasantly surprised if they reached some
Page 5
