Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
June 1, 2009

Individual Team Sports; and Ted is not worried about Enrichment. He does not know if the Rec is
going to make enough in the other cost centers to overcome the deficits in Pool and Rink. Rink pulls
out when the weather gets cooler, but the Pool is not bringing in the numbers, even going back a year.
Mr. Dailey said we’ve been marking them consistently, as we have in the past through the schools, so
the kids are watching. We’re waiting to see what happens towards the end of June before buying a
leaf vacuum or scrubber. Mr. DiSalvo said that, more than the leaf vacuum or scrubber, is getting the
basins fixed. Mr. Dailey agreed.

Mr. Scarl had one more question: what effect has there been with the Sunday closure of the Pool?
Mr. DiSalvo said that there was some disappointment, but once it’s explained to people, he hasn’t had
any contact or direct conversation with anyone. Mr. Dailey said that the rumblings are from the lap
swimmers coming seven days a week. Again, these are things we review every year. If they work,
they work; if not, we come back and take another look at it. It’s the entire building – indoor and
outdoor.

Mr. DiSalvo said that everything he did last year with projections is totally out the window because
they can’t be matched up. Mr. Baxter asked if the summer program was sold out. Mr. DiSalvo said
yes, and they had to cut back quite a bit. Last year there were 222 campers; this year there are 150,
but that’s because we had to cut payroll expense: remember, they don’t wash. Even though we make
all that money, these are two separate accounts: staff and campers.

New Wood Fiber

th
The new wood fiber was installed at North Olmsted Park playground on May 29. It went from rock-
solid to a nice 10” depth. It’s beautiful; it’s not mulch; it’s wood fiber. Next time you’re at North
Olmsted Park, take a look. We probably won’t need it for another three years. Mr. Dailey said wood
fiber makes it ADA compliant as well.

Summer Camp

th
Summer Camp begins on June 8.

Outdoor Pool

th
Our outdoor pool will open on the 15 of June.

Barton-Bradley Playground Equipment

Right now we’re in the process of collecting the quotes on the Barton-Bradley Playground Equipment.
Mr. DiSalvo is waiting for one more bid to hand to John Dailey.

Cleveland Hockey Supply

Cleveland Hockey Supply is paid off; we collected $17,000.
Page 9
