Recreation Commission Meeting
May 5, 2003

years ago, still in place. It’s such an old game that there is no blockage in the coin entry process,
and kids were putting in the same quarter with a string, playing the game over and over by hitting
the wire on the micro switch over and over. Soon afterwards, the makers of the games corrected
this problem.

Mr. Gareau then asked the Members of the Commission if there were any further questions for
Mr. Iafelice. Mr. Gareau informed Mr. Iafelice that Code may require that this matter be put to
proposal. Mr. Jesse asked for canned specs from Metropolitan Vending, and Mr. Iafelice said he
would get those to Mr. DiSalvo. Mr. Gareau concluded that there is a lot of opportunity to
make money from vending at the North Olmsted Recreation and further stated its need because of
its age. Year to date budgeted on games is only $5,000, and it’s clear that, with the right makeup,
much more can be made. Mr. DiSalvo said that the one Coke machine in the Lobby is not
enough for generating income, and Mr. Iafelice replied that, if it’s done right aesthetically, traffic
can be utilized. Mr. Baxter asked how often the machines should be changed. Mr. Iafelice
replied that a game is useless within six months if the kids don’t like it.

Mr. Gareau then thanked Mr. Iafelice for his time after no further questions from the Commission
Members, and Mr. Iafelice thanked the Members as well.

Policy for Rec Usage re: Outside Groups

Mr. DiSalvo asked for the Commission’s help to establish some sort of policy for usage of the
multi-purpose room or any room available for outside groups. He continued that a lot of people
call him for this purpose. Guidelines must be established towards a policy of who or who is not
eligible. One week the Rec Center has Girl Scouts coming in; the next week, Hell’s Angels want
to use a room or the multi-purpose room. Mr. Gareau asked for a sub-committee to consider this
matter, as well as the employee/relative discount issue that the Commission has been discussing
for a number of months. Independently, smaller groups might be able to come up with some
thoughts on these matters.

Mr. Jesse suggested two sub-committees be formed: one for the usage and one for the game
machines, split the Commission in half, meet for an hour before the next regular meeting, take
care of the subcommittee matters, and bring the conclusions to the regular meeting.

Mr. Gareau suggested that, before the vending machine subcommittee be formed, the employee
definition of family subcommittee be formed, since the game machine matter will probably go
through Council and other avenues first. Two or three months from now, the Commission can
come back to the game machine issue for subcommittee formation.
Page 11
