It was agreed that the North Olmsted High School choral group was excellent and should be
invited back again. The dance group should reduce the scale of their performance to fit the stage
if they are to return in 2019. It was noted by several members that the Cabin was very crowded
during the performance and quickly cleared out once it ended, but overall the performance was a
welcome addition to the event. For the hot chocolate station Stephanie suggested getting rid of
coffee entirely and focusing solely on hot chocolate. Janelle stated that the picnic tables should
be staged outside to provide more seating for guests. She also noted that there should be a secure,
private area for members to store their belongings during the event. Jackie offered her office as
necessary. Keith noted that the Santa and Mrs. Claus performers were a hit, but the line should
be moved towards the back wall to allow for better flow off the stage area. He also suggested
providing a small giveaway bag for children as they greet Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Other suggested event improvements included increasing the number of face painters and
balloon artists, adding a new backdrop for the selfie station, adding shifts for hot chocolate
volunteers, finding new marketing approaches to share the event to the entire community, more
all -ages programming and re-evaluating the campfire setup in 2019. The 2019 event date was
confirmed for Sunday, December 8th at the Cabin and Senior Center.
NEW BUSINESS
2019 Priorities
The group reviewed a draft calendar of 2019 Commission events and determined that a late -
February Open Mic Night event should be organized, with Laura agreeing to be the talent
coordinator. James will get dates from Springvale so that event planning can begin right away in
the new year. It was also agreed that Yoga in the Park dates should run from March through
September and utilize the same studio for the same price of eighty dollars per class. Jackie will
contact Circle of Life yoga studio to confirm dates and pricing for approval at the January
meeting. A culinary event was discussed for late summer or early fall, potentially involving a
cooking demonstration at Springvale or the Community Cabin. Further discussion was tabled for
a future meeting to allow for more thought on the matter. James shared that Springvale staff is
interested in partnering with the Commission to celebrate the tentative opening of their patio in
June. James asked members to consider event ideas while he investigates this further.
COMMUNICATION
Membership Update
James shared that Jenny Taylor has resigned from the Commission, with the group thanking her
for her service. James reminded the group that the Commission could always use more members
with diverse experiences and skillsets who live or work in North Olmsted.
ADJOURNMENT
th no further bus'ness, the meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
Jackie Chavez -Anders , Chair James Aspery, Planner
Approved: /16 / / q
